Problem:
My parents just bought a new Eastern 20' boat and asked installers for a waterproof stereo/speakers install. Great idea, right? Well, the idiots mounted the two flushmount waterproof speakers, one on each side, onto the center steering console at about hip's height from the ground.
Consequently, any music played is directed outward toward the ocean and is inaudible to anyone driving the boat, sitting in the front or the back, unless we pump the volume way up during which causes any passerby to give us looks as we blast Phil Collins in their direction
Potential Solution
I'm planning on moving these speakers somewhere else because they're in the worst position they could be in right now, but I'm not sure where I should move them. I can't really mount them on the side walls since there's no space for the back of them.
I'm thinking either:
1. In the same place just two feet lower on the console so sound bounces off the walls of the boat.
2. near the floor on storage space walls facing the back or in at each other. (in the photo below the panel surrounding the benches up in front)
3. On the vertical wall of the very front bow facing back. (in the photo the panel where the wooden storage door is in the front)
4. Mount both on the front panel of the console. Although I imagine this way anyone behind the console will barely hear anything.
Our boat looks similar to this one:
(Imagine flush mounted speakers right where those wooden console handles are. )
Anyone have a boat similar to this with a stereo system? How do you guys have your speakers set up on your boat? Any help appreciated. Thanks.
