Here is a link to my ipod solution.

Would love to see what hardware people come up with for viable audio components, they are fairly slim pickings from what I have found.
Haven’t updated the thread with the new hardware I am running currently, but it is functioning nicely.
I would love to see some usable concepts for a jetski’PC other than GPS which would be a very usable feature IMO, but tunes are a pretty good option when cruising, or just having a usable stereo that can be accessed when pulling up to the beach.

1. Relocate the gauge to the area below the handle bars (where it says gsx). That will leave me enough room to place a small screen there. Also the hood has a slight overhang to block the reflection of the sun.
2. Remove the front cargo container. This area stays dry even if the whole front end of the doo goes under water. I will build a small system using a laptop hd, slim cd-rom, small atx MB. I plan on contructing a small waterproof case that will fit in the bottom of the cargo container. There are 2 fresh air tubes that run into front of the hull. I can tap into these tubes to displace the heat from the cargo area and mount a large fan under the hood.
3. Mount a waterproof trackball beside the relocated guage.
4. Mount GPS reciever in the area between the handlebars and the hood.
5. Remove the glass from the side mirrors (those mirrors are useless) and fabricate waterproof speakers into the mirror mounts.
I am not doing this because of the "wow" factor. I really would like to have gps because I ride on some large lakes and the speed from the gps is more accurate than the speedometer. Sometimes like to listen to music while I ride.
Things that concern me:
1. Battery- I might have to upgrade the size of the battery for powering the amp, dooputer, and still have cranking amps
2. The chance of something catching fire. The cargo area backs right up to a 15 gallon gas tank
3. Running 60mph and being able to hear the speakers over the sound of the ski and the wind.
4. Amping the audio to a decent listening volume. I don't want it blarring out across the lake but I need to be able to hear it.
5. Quickly controlling the audio level and complete system shutdown for emergencies and getting pulled over by the patrol boats
6. Shock proofing the hd. I love to launch the ski off wakes and sometimes the landings are anything but predictable.
Thanks for your input!!!
Can't you just get one of these??? http://www.garmin.com/products/etrex/

You could use a pocket pc. Put it in a waterproof case. http://www.otterbox.com/products/pda_cases/1900/
They make cases for a couple tablet pc's as well. You can still use the touch screen inside the case. I have one of their older cases that I took to Oman for my old iPaq. Kept the dust and crap out of it.

Thought id give my take on this
You could use a PDA it would solve the touchscreen, space and waterproof issue (using a waterproof bag)
You could also get a MII 6000E which is a 600mhz Fanless mini-itx which i use and submerge it in a air tight container of oil or as tight as u can without the oil spilling.
A guy cools his pc totally in oil without any fans and thats a full motherboard
so a mini-itx thats ment to run without fans would be cooled enough
I use D3 frodoplayer and movies running at the same time on my MII 6000E with no problems at all so it's robust enough for the dooputer.
And you can also get a old PDA and use that as your monitor
If you use sidewindow installed on the PC it turns the PDA into a windows display so you can have frodoplayer or whatever running on the PDA screen and u can also use the PDA's touchscreen as the mouse with this software.
Thats my take on how you could make a dooputer

if your still working with ideas for cooling, think along the lines of how the engine of the seadoo gets cooled. Its water, but no rad. Why? Who need a rad when you have a billion gallons of water cooled by the enviroment. Now the big issue here is coming up with components to survive that water.

well, make sure the cointainer with oil has a heatsink of some sort, otherwise it'd be a waste

Okay cooling is probably the biggest issue on this build. If the pc was sealed water tight. you could buy a water cooling system from http://www.water-cooling.com/ and run the water lines outside the water tight pc. Im sure you could get heat sinks for the hard drive, processor, memory, video card, etc.
As for the oil filled pc...The one thing i remember from those is that the hard drive was not in the oil. I guess it wouldn't matter since the drive is probably air tight also. It may work. Using a small EPIA Via motherboard would probably be the best way to go.
And as for the Bike Pc. I like that idea. Small 12volt battery (from child electric jeep). cheap Laptop. Small 5 inch touch screen or smaller. Maybe headphones for sound. Rear camera Possibly those generators that connect to the wheel. Funny sh#$ though, Last month i was driving to lunch and i saw some guy on a bicycle cruising at 30MPH. He had a helmit and leater jacket on. Funny thing was he wasn't peddling. As i passed him i saw he had a gas engine on the back of it.
Anyways, good luck with the Dooputer. Im working on a floatputer

the rest of it, sure, great idea. but i'd have used compact flash for storage. :/

If you have been arround long enough... you would have seen an overclocker using mineral oil and submerging the entire PC in it.... worked just fine.
