Excited about new boat project!

So I've installed two car pcs in my vehicles that have served me very well, and I have so many extra parts that I MAY just slap one in the boat now... just have to figure out where I'd put the monitor. I have an extra lilliput TS laying around that I could use, but I need to place it somewhere where it won't get soaked in our frequent afternoon downpours down here in Florida. Having said that I'd like to be able to access it (preferably from the driver's side) without too much effort. Obviously I can put it in the glove box but it doesn't make it very user friendly and I might as well just hook up my ipod instead. Direct sunlight really isn't that big of a concern thanks to the bimini top. Can anyone offer advice from these pics? Has there been another wake boat with a computer installed yet? I'd prefer not to drill holes in my "baby". My truck, you bet, gimme a dremel... my boat... no.

yep, finding a good accessible place for the touchscreen is a bi***

right now my screen is in the cuddy, and I control (sort of) volume and next song with a powermate at the helm.

I plan on getting a transflective for the helm, with a nice sealed bezel that has a flip-up transparent lid to prevent water damage. I know it sucks, the idea of having to lift a lid to use the touchscreen, but what r u gonna do?

Thinking aloud now....

It looks like the glove box pulls up, so why not mount the screen at an angle where you and most everyone else could see it and run a wired remote like your clarion to control the PC?

I know RR has the ability to use steering wheel buttons and wired remotes.

You could possible fabricate a release mechanism so the glove box "pops up" when the PC is turned on, or maybe even a full motorized. Could turn off power to LCD when closed, but playing tunes to help with cathode tube longevity.

I may have to rethink my plans.

BTW, Nice Boat!

Hey! I have that same car and the same boat! Just did a full upgrade of our sound system. Nice stuff!

One question, why a single axel trailer on such a big boat?

Yeah I could definitely mount the monitor in the glove box (that's where the radio is) but we often throw keys and sunscreen, etc in there. I'm going to be out of town this weekend but when I get back I'll start investigating where i'm going to mount the screen.

Viper,
That's the standard trailer for the X2/X1. It's only 20'7", in terms of wakeboarding boats, it's on the small side.

Also, I live on the lake so the only time I ever trailer the boat is to and from the dealership where the work gets done.

That's a sweet boat ya got there. If I were you i'd get it mounted on the dashboard so you can easily unscrew and remove the screen. Like the fish finders you can get. Then you can easily plug it back in. You have to think about security when putting that kind of stuff in boats. Keep up the good work there.

I'm applying background from car audio. What i did to 'mount' my sub was design an enclosure (portable as to acces spare) that wedged behind the seat. Why don't you make a protective case 'wedge' to fit way up front by the windshield so no need to perma mount, yet a little silicone grip pad will hold steady, and the case could protct from water...my .02

i say you could do like they do with the light switches near water or outside and stuff like that or the a/c controllers and put a clear waterproof box over it then when u need to use it you can flip it up and use it... just my idea....
