weak HD signal tuning

A friend of mine has the visteon HD unit. Its great, except for one thing:

When an HD signal is starting to get weak, the unti will continually try to tune the HD signal and lose it. Because the HD music is delayed a bit from the analog signal, this results in a VERY annoying jumping around of the song as the unit acquires and loses the HD signal over and over.

THe visteon can tune HD only stations or all stations. There is no option to just tune analog stations only. This is a huge problem...

Will the boomzbox HD fix this problem? I think just a no-HD option for those times when your losing strong signal would be great.

That scenario sounds like a broadcaster problem. The broadcasters are supposed to delay their analog signal so it can be synchronized with their digital signal. If the broadcaster doesn't synchronize both their analog and digital broadcasts it will have that time warp problem you are describing as you gain or lose the digital signal. If the broadcasters correctly synchronize their broadcasts it would seamlessly blend between analog and digital modes.

You should contact the radio station's broadcast engineer about that issue.

Is it just not possible to turn off HD when you dont want it?

It's enough of a problem that someone has started a roster of shame: http://ham-radio.com/k6sti/roster.htm

At this time there is no way to force analog only.

Thats awesome, we need to start one of those for the rest of the country.

Is it a software obstacle or are the physical HD radio chips not wired to do anything but automatically seek out and connect to HD signals?
