I never really tried much... I get no distortion or clipping... I get enough volume.... I've accepted it as normal with a dolby dts source...

Ok, here's a question for all the PXA H701 experts. I haven't found the answer to this, even after a search. I may have missed it somewhere, if so, please forgive me.
Here's what I would like to change my system setup to:
Alpine DVA-9965 head unit ( here which says that it can control the H701
Alpine PXA-H701, controlled by head unit
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX USB sound driver, using digitial out, into the PXA-H701
So, the DVA-9965 should be able to control the H701, and select between the Sound Blaster input, and the other inputs from the DVA-9965, including it's internal CD/DVD player, and anything else it has.
Does this make sense?
Dave

It doesmake sense. i'm not sure about the specs, but you can go to alpines website and take a look at the users manual and find out all of the functionality that you may have questions on that particular unit

Yeah, I've downloaded the specs and owners manual for the PXA and the DVA, and while there is some indications that it will work, I have not been able to find anything that says for sure, which is why I am asking. I do generally try and do my own research before asking questions on the board.

yes, you will be able to fully control the 701 through this head, but you have to still have the inputs come to the head unit I belive, alpine is really cool on the phone most times, that might be the best way to find out details is just call them..., unless you have an authorized alpine dealer close by, that looks like a really nice display on that head unit.......

The whole point is that I would want to run a digital optical output to the PXA-H701 from my Sound Blaster, and it looks like there is no optical input on the head unit, only RCA inputs.
I'll try giving them a call tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion, I never thought of that.

from what I know of the 700/01, when it picks up an optical input it'll switch to it.... when the optical input goes away, it'll switch back to the ai-net(head unit)
this shoudn't be a problem for you, just run the optical into the 701 & when you want to switch back to the ai-net is where it gets tricky... you will either need a hotkey with a script to turn the optical output on & off (james bond style ), or unplug the optical cable or soundcard, or hook up a switch to turn the sound card off & on... this can screw with programs though sometimes...
it is also possible to break the light beam of the optical to switch back to ai-net... & also switch to an alternate optical source as well...I'm building a gate switch for that.....
I'd say call them & speak to someone, but this is how it works in my setup...

Hi guys,
im just making my new CarPC:
AMD XP-M system with optical out soundcard.
I was wondering how do I connect up my mono and 4 channel amp to the pc?
I want to use my H701, so does the optical from the soundcard go into my H701?
how do I go about connecting the amps to the carpc?

sounds like you are very confused here. lets try to clear this up. you go optical out from your soundcard into the h701. then you connect the rca outputs of the h701 to your amps. load up your drivers, make sure the h701 is set up for optical input and you're off to tuning land.

I bought mine used on eBay w/ the RUX-C701 for $200 off. Could really care less if it's used. I did have to order the power and data cables from an Alpine parts center for $50 though. I bought my amp new from HookedOnTronics, 4.3/5 at ResellerRatings, for $100 off. Is there anyway I can tell whether it's genuine or not? It came in the original box with all the accessories/manual and was packed like new. They sell the RUX and PXA as well: http://www.hookedontronics.com/show_...st.jsp?cid=799 Assuming my amp is authentic (it works fine) they're a great store.
