one way people have found out about woofersetc.com is that the serial numbers have been scratched off. not saying that that makes the product fake, but rather it's highly illegal to ship something like that acorss state lines.
Makes you wonder about the rest of their practices.
I've heard reports of people recieving fakes from them as well.
As for telling if your amp is real. Find one that you know is real and compare the two.

Well, my Alpine MRP-F450 looks exactly the same as the one mounted on the wall at Best Buy. Never bothered to check the serial numbers. I figured that if it ended up breaking I could just send it to Alpine to have it repaired and it would still be cheaper than buying it new.

It may look the same, but if it's not a real alpine, they will laugh in your face if you try and send it in to be fixed.

They could just send me a new one out, say they fixed it, and charge me some outrageous price. Or they could actually fix it, and again charge me. It's not like it's warranty work. They make money off of it. Unless they'd be afraid that it would fail again and they'd have to warranty the repair. But I'm assuming most conterfeit Alpine stuff is just brick and mortar retail models with the serial numbers scratched off. Meaning it actually is Alpine, so they'd know how to fix it and wouldn't have to worry about the repair failing. I'll go check the serial number out and report back.

I found an ebay seller 310audio for most of the alpine components. Ill let everyone know how it goes.
Thanks to everyone on this thread for helping me decide!

I have been researching the h701 and I am most def going to buy it. I have a questions though...I will get the h701 and the rux-c701. I am also going to have a headunit up front in my glove box probably. How would you incorporate the h70, carpc sound card AND the HU all together.
I will connect the carPC to the h701 via optical input. On the h701 RCA output, it will go to the HU. And ofcourse the RCA inputs will come from the amps. MY question is, lets say If i want to listen to the radio on the HU and stop listening to the carpc how would I achieve that. The way I look at it as, since there are two inputs and how do I switch from HU to carPC? do i switch via the rux-c701?

That is not how your supposed to use it, but yes. If you want to have 2 sources, you can access the H701 settings and change the input from analog to digital, then it will be switched. It's not something that is easy to do while driving though.
Why not just add a FM tuner card to the PC if you have to have it?

Well the PC FM Radio really sucks...really bad reception i had the RadioXtreme and it was horrible. I wanna try the HQTC usb version when it comes out. I guess I will have to see then...
Also another big problem with me is that I have my slim dvd drive molded into the dash and the stupid thing doesnt work. Well let me say it works but I can find a slim to usb adapter that is fully functional! SO the dvd drive is useless.... Thats a reason why i also use my HU!

If you download the manual for the h701 it will outline the button presses that need to be done.

Can anybody tell me if the color change thing is possible with the RUX-C701? I am doing all lighting for show with my car, and would really hate to have this be the only different color. But I do really want the setup.

Here's what I would like to change my system setup to:
Alpine DVA-9965 head unit ( here which says that it can control the H701
Alpine PXA-H701, controlled by head unit
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX USB sound driver, using digitial out, into the PXA-H701
So, the DVA-9965 should be able to control the H701, and select between the Sound Blaster input, and the other inputs from the DVA-9965, including it's internal CD/DVD player, and anything else it has.
Does this make sense?
Dave
Ok, going back to this question.
Instead of the digital output from my soundcard, I will use a short RCA output straight to the PXA=H701.
The head unit is still the DVA-9965.
I haven't been able to tell from the manual if it will be easy to switch between inputs, or difficult (deep into menus)
Right now, the soundcard is going through a long RCA straight to the head unit, (no PXA-H701) and the headunit is outputting to the amps. I would rather use the PXA-H701's output to the amplifiers, run the output from the soundcard to the PXA, and still be able to easily switch to the head units output to the PXA, through the AI-Net cable.
Any idea if this is possible?
Dave

What color change thing do you mean?
The H700 controller has red/green buttons and the H701 has blue buttons (generally speaking), but the display has always been blue with the negative or positive image. Tell us what you are wanting.
Caelric, I can't answer the main part of your question, but using the analog out from the sound card to the H701 is going to cause a slight hit in the sound quality and noise floor. It may not be enough to notice so you might have see for yourself.

Red is not so bad as my H700 can do red, but it is a little orangish as well. Not a pure red like you may be looking for. You might be able to add a little piece of red flim over the top of each LED to make it more red, though. I don't know enough about how the display is made to know if the color can be changed. Turbocad6 may know a bit more becuase he's tore down various Alpine parts before for custom installs, but I can't say for sure.
Have you tried contacting Alpine support and asking them, yet? They may know something. There might be a Japan version already in red or something. You never know.

Haven't thought about that really. Hell, the amber would be fine with me. It would come closer to matching my custom red lighting throughout the car than blue or green. Now....you say the H700???? I thought that the only thing with color I needed to worry about was the actual controller, You don't even see the manager do you?
