I think I managed to do that... I but a small loop between one of the screws in the chassis to the groundcable going into the inverter but it didn't seem to help... yesterday after I connected the cables to the front set of speakers I noticed that my screen was going crazy to... buzzing sound was much louder and the screen was flickering like mad...

I tried using a extension cable from a power outlet and then I didn't have this problem, sound was amazing so I hope I can get rid of this problem and just start to enjoy my 5.1 setup...

Ok so its been a while, as most of you know i am using the XMD1000 and am gettting ground noise in the line in.

I tried grounding the XMD chassie as most of you suggested and still no difference. I am now using a computer with a DC to DC power supply. when I mute the line in it is perfect, it is also perfect with the line in unmutted, however as soon as I connect the XMD and it is operational it has a buz and hmmm..... i also get the alternator whine, what would u guys recommend!!!

I have gone through the exact same problem since I installed the XMD. Grounding the chassie worked partially, but I still had some noise. I finally took the cable apart and found that the ground in the cable at the serial connector wasn't very good. I resoldered it and it made a very big difference. There still is a very slight whine but is 10x more tollerable than before.

Hello mate,

I am a bit of a novice at all this stuff but have still managed to fit a freeview tuner and DVD/Divx player into my Mk4 Golf GT TDI 150 (both display onto MFD). However, I am getting background noise. I have a ground loop isolator but am not sure where each wire attaches.... stupid i know! Could you please help with either a diagram or by posting where each of the four cables attach (Red and black input And Red and black output). Thanks

great thread! i have a similar problem...

i'm running my laptop off of a diehard deep cycle marine battery, through a black&decker 400w inverter. everything was peachy the first few days, but last night the inverter (only the inverter, no speaker noise or anything) started making a huuuge high pitched whine. after reading some of these posts i'm kicking myself in the *** for not thinking to ground anything.

my question is... could i get away with only grounding the battery? i'd rather not have to pull apart the inverter to ground the chassis.

i also assume that my inverter is toasted... anyone care to prove me wrong???
