down side - no optical in, and output voltage isn't very high either 2.2v

and it's only 5 band eq....

the UCS? damn.... ok, never trust reviews! ( I never realy looked into it, because I was going with a 31-band graphiq EQ at first.

How about the venerable Sony XES (P1, X1)? Also possibly the XDP9000 (Sony).

What about the Pioneer P9 combo? (DEX-P9 and DEQ-P9)

As long as I'm chiming in, the Pioneer ODR system and the Clarion ADCS1 may have also had optical inputs.

done - though I think this might be a bit on the sides lines, it's still a player for those that are interested in still using a fully functional HU.

Same with the ORD system. This isn't so much just a list of processors that are avaliable, but a list of processors that people might use to research their options as far as integrating into a CarPC install.

As far as the XES is concerned:
3/4 way crossover, selectable crossover points, 72dB/octave slopes, as well as time alignment for each channel with the X1 unit. There is a parametric EQ included in the P1 (Command module)
Toslink in and I believe there were 20 bit Burr-Browns on each channel. They may have been 16 bit, though. I had one of these setups for quite a while. It used what is by far the most ergonomic remote ever developed for car audio (IMO). Another possible bonus is the X1 may be able to be controlled via PC with a unilink emulator. This unit would function on a standalone basis if that was the case, and be very attractive to the members of this forum.

This system also used Unilink for control, and has a niche following currently as far as modifications go (XM/Ipod control.) Here's a reputable forum: http://www.rush2112.net/phpBB2/viewf...55cfeff063f71b

The XDP4000X (Screwed up the model # above. It's been a while..) was a very similar unit as far as functionality, but I can't recall the differences.

I have a friend currently running the ODR, and it has similar functionality to the XES setup, but with fewer boxes.

I will be running the P9 stuff in the install I am planning now. Hopefully I will get a thread started in worklogs over the next couple of days.

I realize you weren't necessarily looking for all of the options, but I figured I'd toss out a few SQ heavy options for those on more liberal budgets.

I guess the biggest issue I see with the Sony's is that they aren't readily avaliable. Kinda like the Sherwood, it isn't readily avaliable either.

While I beleive that the sonys and the pioneers are great units for SQ, I feel that most people who would be purchasing something of that magnitude would already be aware of them and wouldn't necessarially be coming to this forum looking for them?

dono - if you can find me some more information on these units and a link, I'll put them in the list, otherwise...it's kinda like the Sherwood (no, not in terms of quality, but rather useful information)....more of a space taker...lol

That Alto UCS doesn't have digi/opti inputs from what I see. Doesn't look like it would do what I want. THough, I guess you can run out the onboard sound to it as it accepts a very low >2v input.
