Hey Red --could you somehow insert this post as the second post in this thread? I want to organize it a bit better and I can't add any mroe info in the the one post. It's pretty much full. I don't know if this is in your "dark side" powers

I don't think there's a way to do that. I've needed to do it on a bunch of other threads as well.
I'm looking into a few new features for the forum that would take care of this issue as well.
Perhaps taking all of this and putting it into a wiki is a good work around for now.
One of the mods i'm looking into will take our wiki and integrate it better int the forum. it looks like it will also allow forum discussion on the articles.

Ok just thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. I'll work on putting it into the wiki.

If I can somehow fit a Firewire PCI card into the case, would that work? Anyone know of any issues with using a firewire pci solution? I'm looking at a 400mbps transfer rate 1394a (?) card that has a smaller board. The 6 pin firewire from the M Audio Firewire would be compatible with the 1394a... right? Sorry for the questions. I think I'm going to try and get firewire in the comp so I can use the M Audio Firewire.

I think 6 pin vs 4 pin can be convertor with a cable. The difference I think is that the 6 pin carries extra voltage supply, where if you use the 4 pin then you need to hook up extrenal power. I haven't ever really used firewire though so I can't say for sure.

Thanks for the info. Going to go ahead and see if I can cram it all inside a Voompc case. Will report back if it all works, if I can get it to work.

I really should amend my comments on the Behringer UCA-202, it turned out that the noise and non-working issues I was having weren't due to the card, turned out to be a ground loop causing the noise, and an issue with Road Runner causing the non-working thing! Have since fixed them up and am using the UCA-202, and am very happy with it. The headphone jack is still dodgy though, and the gold plating on the jacks is ordinary, but they are minor and don't affect my setup.

Hi
i have read this threat several times, and i found a lot of info, but there is just a little of info for the people like, (i think we are the most) a guy how likes music a wants to have a good sound system, but dont want something for SQ competition or anything like that. Like the pros in here do or want.
I have been reading a lot about this a my next project is my carPC, i was gonna do exterior modifications in my car, but i always say, the exterior mods are for other people te interiors are for me .
To my point, i see some cheap USB cards at the begining of the threat, but i want to read from the experts, the USB cards that you think are nice for a good SQ system that have good preout volt at least 4.1, EQ capability and X-over for those how want an active setup, and a price no more than US$100.
I see the SB live, but there are others like Turtle beach and some others, but not much info about what they can do for a normal guy with a carPC.
Hope you can help me an others.

You're going to have a very hard time finding all of that in any card, let alone a sub $100 USB card.
I don't even think it exists...especially not with the crossovers built in and 4.1v RCA out.

He means 5-channel with nice output voltage, not 4.1 volts. But for all the rest.....

Sorry if i havent been clear, english is my second language, i'm not talking about anything fancy, or high end, just talking about a good card (nice enough for most people) that can work well in a carPC only system.
I seen some nice PCI cards that are really nice, but most of then have high profile and it doesnt fit in the space i have for my comp. Thats way i'm asking about USB or firewire cards.
Doesnt need that high out volt, my HU doesnt and i have a really nice system in my car, neither RCA out (unless thats the only way sound cards have nice SQ direct to amps).
Or i the worst case some nice PCI cards that have what i'm asking for people how want a nice clean setup with good SQ.
PD: This is my system.
I'm plannig on put the carPC where the small amp is, an 2 new amps where the big one is, i have a lot of areal space but the heigh is a limitation, cause y can get 4" maybe 5" maximun. If this is enough for many nice PCI cards, please let me know.
Thanks

Even still, a sound card with crossovers built in for every channel isn't realistic.
Never mind the RCA and voltage outputs. The only crossovers I've seen built into a sound cards drivers are for the subwoofer, and even then they are extremely limited.
The sound card will need at least 2v output (RCA or otherwise) to go to the amplifiers so that you have a high enough noise floor to eliminate noise interference.

Ok, forget about the X-over it was just in case, i have one, so 2V output at least and with RCA, you mean, RCA out in the sound card, or 3.5 mm with RCA cables??

1/8" will work fine. Problem is finding high quality, or even middle quality 1/8" to RCA cables. Most of them are the cheapo Radio Shack kind.

ok, then the RCA's are not a problem i have some high quality here for my PC speakers.
Who does the SB X-fi xtreme gamer is, i cant find many reviews about it, and it have a low profile, not like the other cards i seen with take the full PCI space with is to high for my space.
Or are there some nice cards with similar profile??
