Just joined up

Great site you all have here.. I mainly joined to seek information and to see what others are doing with this hobby..

..I m presently working on a 1990 Chevy Lumina, and I haven't actually installed anything yet because the dash is out and the motor is being rebuilt right now.. I am concentrating on getting it to move, but I have been drawing and drafting ideas for the audio setup..

Initially I was planning an Alpine IVA W200, and a crap ton of speakers everywhere.. But I toned it down some, mainly because I don't need in dash DVD or navigation..

..I have recently decided to install an Alpine CDA-7998 into the car because of the oversized face the unit has.. This face will fit the DIN 1.5 opening of the car.. I need to fabricate a 'channel' for the backside of the deck to extend deeper into the dash, but I'm okay with that.. What made my decision to go with this deck difficult was iPod integration..

"So what do I do?" I thought to myself. GO with a newer Alpine ISO mount, and have iPod control on the deck, or get my CDA-7998 and enjoy a better fit overall.. Now I know people have used the KCA-420i with the 7998, but the issue as I understand it is the speed is lacking, and the interface isn't intuitive.. I decided becasue I have a Harman-Kardon Drive+Play sitting here, I can use that.. I already have a plan to custom mount the controls and screen so they look like they belong there..

I'll stop boring you all.. Nice site, and I'm glad to be a part of the community!

You do realize this is a CarPC site, right?

Thread moved to car audio since it has nothing to do with CarPCs.

lol, i HAVE noticed that the forum name is slightly deceiving for newbs who're just joining... MP3Car sounds like... well... a strictly iCE forum Not many people realize that putting a PC in a car and using it as a multimedia system is fairly... normal now-a-days

And that's why they need to search and read, so they can figure that out before joining
