Hey, i want to install 2 amps in my car, one powering 2 subs and the other powering the speakers. I am new to carpcs and was wondering how both the amps would be connected to the pc.

It would be in the same way asif you had a headdeck - audio out from pc into your amps RCA inputs... using a 3.5mm to rca split ...

what soundcard are you using? does it have a decent output voltage? channels? etc and im sure we could all help a bit more

Thanks for replying. I was gonna use a MSI PM8M-V motherboard and not a separate soundcard. So I would connect the pc and one amp with one set of rcs's, and then connect both the amps together with another set? Its gonna be done in an rsx and I was hoping that i could replace the stock amp with my own.

well each little "headphone" jack on the motherboard carries 2 channels of sound. So 1 of those little jacks gives you 2 sets of RCA's. So for 4channels of sound through the speakers, use the green and blue as outputs (blue is normally line-in but through software can be used as a line-out), and you get FL, FR, RL, RR into the amp and then to the speakers. Then the red which is usually mic-in can be configured through software to be a sub and center channel. So take another 1/8" to RCA off the red jack and one is the center line, and the other is the sub line. Put the sub line into the sub amp and to the subs. That easy.

Thanks, that explained a lot. Where does teh center line go and what software would I use to configure the outputs? Could someone also explain how the rem wire would be connected? Currently im using my antenna wire to turn on my amp, how would i change if i have to turn on the pc and both the amps?

Edit: Do the rca's from the red output jack just go to the sub amp?

Alright - the red jack which then is converted to rcas should go directly into your sub amp ( providing you dont have a center speaker ) - then use the sub amp to cut off the high frequencies ( lpf - low pass filter ) - also the software should come with the motherboard - or if ur getting it 2nd hand and dont have them then from the MB manufacturer - u can use this to configure the ports in pretty much any way

as for the rem wire - if u are still using your headdeck ("remote"or "antenna" wire) u should run your switchable power wire through a relay and then to your amps / pc power supply ( the rem wire will most likely not have enough power to keep the power high enough to turn on all your devices ) - in the case that u are just using your accessories power, you SHOULD just be able to loop the cable through to your different devices - remember - SHOULD :P just depends on how your car manufacturer has wired your car :P

A relay is just a switch right? I was thinking about splitting the rem wire into 3 when it got to the trunk to turn on all 3 devices. How would a loop work? Would I just hook it up in series?

there should be heaps of stuff on basic relays on here and crap load of info on google :P

but...

a relay is a high powered switch, so u put your switchable power ( remote cable ) through relay, and on the other side u put your permanent power ( from battery - high power )

usually a remote cable will not have enough power to power on 2 devices, let alone 3... so what we would do is use a relay "switch" to switch a higher current power source...

- in other words - when the remote turns on, it switches the relay - which turns on the power that u have run through the relay (from the battery etc) - so now u get more power through the same application... u then connect your devices to this instead, and that way u have enough power to turn on all your devices...
