6.5" Component Speakers Polk,Focal,Boston

Hey, I have currently been looking around for some 6.5" speakers for my 2003 Nissan Xterra. I will be driving them on an Alpine amp bridged for 70W per channel at 4 Ohms. I will have no rear speakers, but I will have a small 8" Bazooka sub.

Any suggestions on speakers would be VERY helpful, since I am fairly new to this sort of thing. I have limited experience with car audio and just want some speakers that will sound great, no matter what music I play.

Budget: $200.00
Music: ANY AND ALL, but mostly Rock... I like it loud!
Subwoofer: 8" Powered Bazooka
Amp: Alpine Bridgable 4/3/2 Channel 280Watt
Sound Card: On-Board Sound

I very much dislike coaxial speakers, I really like to have the tweeters seperate like they are in the component systems.

you should checkout the rainbow slc 265's. I've been very pleased with them and you'll read TONS of praise about them on caraudioforums.com. I bought them for $220 i think and i'm pretty sure the rpice hasn't changed

I looked those up and couldn't find a whole lot of information. I can't find a site in the United States. Only sites I could find them on are from Europe

. All I could find was that the RMS is 100W and the Sensitivity is 90dB. That sensitivity is lower than the others im looking at, so doesn't that mean they won't be as loud? I also didn't see their Impedence rating(Ohms).

My amp does 2-Channel mode, 4 ohms @ 70W x 2. Would that be enough to power these speakers that have an RMS Rating of 100W?

One of the members of caraudioforums 6spdcoupe, i believe is a dealer of them. That's who I bought them through-I'd recommend you get in touch with him-he's extremely knowledgeable and extremely helpful with questions like that. I'm running them off of a diamond d3 400.4 amp rated at 50watts rms per channel. I'm bi-amping my rainbows and that's plenty power for them. I'd recommend doing a little search on caraudioforums.com and getting in touch with 6spdcoupe for any questions you have-you won't be disappointed

I can recommend the Focal 165 A1, an all round speaker. I bought them new off eBay for US$100.

I recomend the pioneer prs's. I bought mine from wooferetc for around $200. I like the sound of these speakers better than the Focal 165k2's that I had for many years. Best $200 set of speakers i have ever owned. You can read a review here:

after going through about 4-5 different showrooms to find the right speakers i wanted ( worked at 2 of the stores so it was easy to go and hear them), i decided to go with polk momo's. the best show room i foudn was tweeter. they had good setup with little background noise, and it sounded pretty good, ( for a show room anyhow).

after listening to those, some xplods, some focals, and several different series and brands i decided on the polk momos ( for that price range) i think as well as another audio-file friend of mine that they were the best for the value. they produce a warm sound thats crisp but not tinny, they were sharp and differese sound. they didnt sound flat at all, and they produced a pretty good filling sound with good sound at high volume and low.

id recommend you go here the polk 6.' MOMOS. that being said, if i could i would have bought the 800 dollar pair of focals though, THEY WERE AWESOME speakers, sounded amazing!, but again 800 dollar speakers instead of 200.

Here's a second on the Polk MOMOs. The db series is okay, but the MOMOs are much more worth the money. I haven't heard the focals to really grade them, and i'm not so much a fan of Kenwood speakers. So, the Polks are what I have (two pairs of MOMO), and I love 'em.

Do you guys own the Polk MOMO Coaxials or Components? On their site, the Polk MOMO MMC-6500 Components have a rating of 4.59, while the MMC-650 Coaxials have a rating of 4.91. The coaxials are much cheaper than the components. I really like the components being seperate though, what do you guys suggest?

The only problem I have with the Pioneer's is they have a sensitivity rating of 88dB. I think that's going to be a bit low for my likes. The only problem I have with the Rainbow's is they are above my budget.

A few people have told me that the Polk Momo's are nice, so I think I'll go with those.

I see the Polk Momo 6500 Components for $200 on eBay. The Polk Momo 650 Coaxials are $110 on eBay. Which should I get? I really like the tweeter seperate, but is that worth $90?

not to get in a ****ing contest but listening to speakers in a showroom isn't really a good judge of quality. They are going to sound a lot different in your car. **** listening to speakers in someone elses car isn't necessarily indicative of what they'll sound like in yours...

trust your ears. If you liked the way they sounded go for them.

The advantage of the components is to lace the tweeter in a more ideal location and a better crossover. If the coaxials sound better you and will make installation easier for you then go that route. Just beware that the car environment can be much different then the showroom. Like

Yeah.. I've only listened to the Focal 165 A1's in one showroom and the Polk Audio MOMO 6500 and Polk Audio db6501's in a different showroom. Between the Polk's I think the MOMO's sounded better, but I'd have to hear the Focal's and Polk's side by side to compare. Now if only they'd let me test them in my vehicle before I bought them

. I think I'm going to get a set of MOMO MMC-6500 Components off of eBay.

coax are definitely a lot easier to install. Proper tweeter positioning and location is key for a good setup as I quickly learned last year. My original plan was to mount them in the stock tweeter location-up near the side mirrors until speaking with a few people online and install shop. Ended up making kick panels to go down near my feet but it was well worth the work!
