Woohooo, no annoying noise!

Hi all,

I don't know if anyone can remember, but I was having some problems with an annoying crackling noisy when I tried to go HU-less.
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/car-...e-new-amp.html

Well, I'm back at it a month later, with a few upgrades/modifications.

Different 4-channel XS 600W amp, now located 2ft from PC
PC & Amp grounded very close to each other, and to a sanded bit of bodywork.
Power cables now run down side of car - data still down middle.
No USB soundcard, now a Creative Audigy 2 ZS PCI.

So all my cable runs are now pretty short, however I do have a long cables from my amp in trunk, to where the old HU was, soldered onto the existing speaker cables, and around the sides to my speakers.

Anyway, today I plugged it all in, and ta-da! Simple, crackle-free, no-HU sound. Would be interesting to know which of the modifications I did fixed the problem, but I suspect it was either the new soundcard, or the changed amp.

Yaay.

but i'm proud of this! kxproject crossovers are fun too!

It's probably not ur sound card, on the basis that my soundcard is 'onboard' (i.e., on the motherboard). Try and make sure your grounds are firmly grounded, your power cables are away from your speaker cables

if your amp is conected right to your pc then you will find that the amp is getting the sound from the pc

there is a inline jack thing that can put that noise to the background so you cant here it, but i dont know the name of them

i believe what you are looking for is called a "Ground Loop Isolator" (GLI). you can buy them at Circuit City for 15 bucks. all you do is take the 1/8 jack RCA splitter that you hooked up to your sound card into your amp...instead of placing it to your amp, the RCA ends go into the connection on the GLI...then from the GLI into your amp...voila...no more "Alternator whine" or static...

one thing you have to realize is that not all cars are the same...and the GLI will get rid of most of the noise...but some cars you just cant get rid of it at all...but it will be drastically reduced
