Sound quality loss using AUX in to HU from sound card?

After doing research, I decided to keep my HU. Correct me if I'm wrong but from my understanding,
cons: no 5.1(or 4.1 w/o center)
pros: factory FM radio/antenna(better signal), no need for amp control wire from PSU, n HU serving as backup in case carputer dies(knocks wood)

my question is... would there be a loss of sound quality compared to a setup without HU? My guess is no... Rather, I would think that this way improves the sound quality since I dun have to use the long AUX cable all the way to the amp in the trunk.

I heard about 5.1 vs stereo n in my opinion music does not matter. But I would still want full 5.1 for movies. Just wondering, are divx/xvid encoded for 5.1 surround sound?

p.s. I have audigy 2 nx outputting with ASIO and 4 chan amp powering my speakers.

the no 5.1 or 4.1, is completely up to your HU.

There is an entire thread lable something like "Can a CarPC compete with a HU sound quality" or something, and again it all has to do with your HU, your computer, and your wiring.

Red has won national SQ competitions with a PC. Others have ground loops. All install and component dependant, it cannot be generalized.

And you can encode anything you want into xvids. You choose that when you encode the video.

If you are talking about pirated films, then 1 that is a no-no on these forums, and 2 usually they are highly compressed so 2 channel sound. You wont benefit at all from anything more than 2 channels.

..but divx is a wonderful way to carry a library of movies you own on DVD without breaking the hard drive storage bank. And you can decide if you want to keep 5.1 or not, it doesn't take up that much space, compared to 5.1 from DVD audio, or uncompressed CD's.
