So if I have an input signal of about 5.5V (about 90% of the maximum input of 6V) i should set my gain down.

1. Would this configuration give me better quality (THD%) THAN takeing a low signal say 0.3V (5% of 6V) and turning the gain all the way up?

2. If yes to Q1, would the Sound Volume (Amplitude) be grater with high input signal low gain OR low input signal high gain?

3....Just wondering, what is the effect on THD% of high input signal and medium/higher (say 65%) gain?

Does more voltage equate to more "headroom"?

question 1 is a definate yes,.3v is way too low but this would usually apply even at less extremes like 2v vs 6v. the noise floor should be lower & you will be able to reach a higher spl before distortion in most cases, which is really the answer for question #2. the actual degree of difference weather slight or night & day is dependant on many variables, not the least would be the equiptment & rfi interfearence

harmonic distortion should be lower, there should be more headroom & less noise, higher sn ratio. it should be cleaner. this is also assuming a situation of an average install with significant lengths of rca runs.
