Eclipse DCU105 DSP...no optical?
OK...Multiple questions...
I have been looking for a DSP that has an optical in. i ran across the Eclipse DCU105 http://www.cardomain.com/item/ECLDCU105 and it says that it has a TOS link Optical input. but when you look at the picture, it doesnt have any Optical input at all.
and another question I have about this unit, is that it doesnt say that you can use it with other "non-Eclipse" equipment. i just want to take the Optical out from my soundcard, put it into the DSP, run the DSP to the AMP via the RCA output's (which it says the DCU105 bumps up the voltage on the RCA's to 5v).
The main selling point for this for me is the that it has an accessory that i can get for $20 to send out pink noise to map my car, and Eclipse will send me the correct EQ settings for my car for "auto-tuning"....that is pretty sweet to me...cause i dont know where to begin with that.
Does anyone know anything about this unit, at all?
Thanks
Dan

Well I can tell it has some type of coax digital in by the black RCA plugs but without a control unit it won't do you much good. It lists it only works with an Eclipse AVN7000 or AVX5000. What is wrong with the alpine h701/RUX combo? Too much money? There are other ways you can go.

I saw that, but i wasnt sure if it only worked with that, or thats what they reccommended.
Im trying to go for a headunit-less install. that is my ultimate goal.
Money isnt the biggest issue, it is a factor, but not the biggest one. Im just looking a way for me to go from my computer to my amp and speakers through a digital connection (optical preferred). I checked out the threads about the amplifiers that have the optical in, but never shipped with remotes...that would have been my preffered method.
and another note, i already have audiophile speakers in my car (DLS Ultimate Iridium 6.3) and a DLS Ultimate A4 amp, so thats why i want to go digital, not analog. To get the best sound possible.

I do believe it is an eclipse compatiable only piece, It also allows the AVX and AVN units video distro capibilities. I would wait for the new alpine imprint piece (I think the 650. RED knows quite a bit about the piece) and if I recall priceing isnt bad and you have the superior control that alpine is knowen for as well as the auto tuning mic.

cool. definately good to know. Ill PM Red and ask her about it after i google the 650...thanks man.
The only thing im worried about is the crispness of the Alpine unit as compared to an Eclipse. I have read on a few websites while looking for a good DSP that Alpine is more of a "full sound" but not as crisp as the Eclipse's. Has anyone else noticed this in any units for comparison? cause im new to the DSP scene...thanks

i'm not sure if that 650 was 'all that' from what i read in the past, no first hand experience though.
you have other options depending on your amps x-overs you could probably get away with a dac (many to choose from, coustic, mcintosh, nakimichi, etc...) you can also look into the zapco units as well.

I don't think the PXE-H650 has any digital input-analog only. It is geared more towards those who want to connect it to factory radio.
The JBL MS-8 should be interesting whenever it get released.

The 650 is designed for OEM systems.
Go with the 701 - it's not a head unit, it's just a display. The display is only like an inch thick.

Nah the JBL processor has no digital input, but analog connection isn't always bad as long as they designed the product properly. The H701 is kind of noisy on the analog input (hiss) and that is why it is best used with digital connection. Other processors that are strictly analog in might have better inputs.
Info on the JBL processor for anyone interested

you need an x-over on the amp (or external active) if you're going to run a sub with the dls's when using a stereo dac, for instance; something like this:

Scott: That Nagamichi DAC...With my current setup (im using my iPod now cause the computer fried, should be getting it back by tomorrow or early next week), iPod>Amp>Crossovers>Speakers.
If i were to add in a sub (and the needed DAC with it), i would have to set it up like this?: computer>DAC>Amp>Crossovers>Speakers
and with the DSP it would be like this right?: Computer>DSP/controller>Amp>Crossovers>Speakers
do i have that right, or am i missing something? How would i go about adding in a sub with the DSP? do i even need the DAC for that? cause logically, it doesnt seem to be needed cause the DSP does that for me...right?

what amp(s) do you have? it'll be easier for us to tell you how to hook it up when we know what the amp is capable of
