Help with AUX input on Pioneer DEH-P6800MP

I'm trying to play my ipod using the AUX input on my Pioneer deck. I've gotten the AUX1 turned on. It has a 2.5mm input, and of course the Ipod is 3.5mm so I bought an adapter at Radio Shack. Right now I have a male/male cable going from the ipod to the female end of the adapter and the male 2.5mm end of the adapter is plugged into the deck. I know that the deck is recognizing it becuase I can hear the music very faintly coming out of my car speakers, but it's so low and distorted that it's impossible to listen to. I tried the simple things like adjusting the volume on the ipod up and down and same with the deck. Could it be the adapter is causing some sort of signal loss?

I'd assume you have a bad adapter or cable. If you replace it and it still does it, then something might be up with your radio. Does the manual say anything about signal level adjustment for auxillary in?

You have it plugged into the bottom of the faceplate under the SAT RADIO icon?

Have you also tried going into the function menu, and increasing the SLA on this input?

Lastly, I would check to make sure all connections are secure, the plugs are plugged all the way in, etc.

If none of this works, you probably have a bad adapter or cable. Pioneer makes the CD-RB10, which adapts the P-BUS connector to a set of RCA inputs, which you can plug into the ipod through a second adapter. This cable is cheap on ebay.

Hope this helps.

Hmm, not sure about the SLA. What does that do?

It stands for Source Level Adjustment.

The deck has it, I've used this one before. It allows you to equalize the inputs to be the same volume as the FM radio. This way when you switch between the inputs, you don't have to turn it up or down.

Go to the aux input, and press the func button (center of the circle key on the remote) then keep pressing func to scroll through until you see the SLA menu. Then turn the SLA up or down (top or bottom of circle key) and see if that helps, if that doesn't help, try a different cable. Make sure though that all the connections are secure and all the way in.

I'd probably bet its the cable. I've seen some people having problems with cables coming from radio shack. Most significant story was the cable that the customer was using from radio shack was only a mono cable (only 2 wires in the cable, and 2 seprate contacts on each male end) and he was having a similar problem. Whereas, I immediately plugged in a cable we carried that was an 1/8" stereo cable (It had 3 seprate contacts on each male end) and it worked perfectly.

I have this HU and you need to firstly activate the ATT function through settings. I can’t remember how you do this but it will say in the instruction manual

he did that, it plays, just distorted and quiet. Probably a bad cable.

for those that have it and don't know, turn the deck off, and hold the func key, scroll through the options until AUX1 comes up and turn it on.

That's exactly what it is. I adjusted the SLA level and could hear more of it and then I realized that it's coming out mono. Where can I get the proper cable in stereo?

The 3.5 female to 2.5 male adapter can be found online; Samsung's website has one made for their cell phones (2.5mm jack) for $9.99 plus shipping.
http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/a...hersmultimedia
then scroll down to the AETS43CSEB/STD

It will work for your situation even though it says it only works on the A930.

Or you can just exchange the one you have at radio shack for a three ring connector, not just a two ring.
If you go to radio shack, ask for part number 274-004:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=search
It's definitely stereo. If this is the one you have, then exchange it for a new one.

Damn I'm good. The reason why it distorts when using a mono cable is because its causing feedback to the mp3 player when the ground contact on the mono cable is sharing the ground and one of the other positive lines.
