Unhappy JL 500/1 problems :(

Hi guys,

I am all out of ideas reagrding this problem and hopefully someone reading this will know what it is I am doing wrong

I have a 04 RX8 with Bose and I am trying to drive a JL 10V6w2 with a 500/1. I have tapped the rear right and left speakers after the factory amplifier.

I have connected RCA plugs to some speaker wire. Centre pin of the RCA is connected to the positive wire and the outer part of the rca plug is connected to the negative. Is this correct?? In this setup I have 4 speaker wires going to 2 RCA plugs. The other end of this cable is soldered/tapped onto the stock wires for the rear speakers (post amp).

I am playing a 50Hz test tone and have tested the voltage left and right via a multimeter and it is reading ~ 2V.

After connecting the RCA's to the amp and playing a 50Hz sample test tone I am measuring the voltage from the amp's sub output. The reading with both RCA plugs connected is very low < 1V. If I connect only left or right RCA plug exclusivey then the multimeter is reading > 20 V. I am expecting 31.6V after tweaking the gain.

I dont undertand what is happening? and would be grateful for some help. My concerns are really arround how I should be converting +/- per rear channel into RCA for my amp.

Thanks in advance.

Maz

Sounds like on one of your RCA cables, you switched the polarity therefore canceling out the signal. Swap two wires on one RCA and I think you will be fine.

If you are using the signal after the amp, then make sure you have the input on the JL setup as high level input. Use low level input if it's before the bose amp.

Also, I'm not sure the rear speakers are the best place to grab a signal or your sub in the RX8. In my mazda6, the rears are actually high passed thus making it almost useless for trying to wire a sub signal from them. Just a thought, don't know if the RX8 is setup the same.

Thanks durwood! I will give it a try first thing tomorrow morning

I hope that is the problem...I am at wits end with this install

The amp is definitely set on high level input. I will need to do some digging regarding the rears...I followed the lead of some others, albeit blindly, regarding chosing the rears as the input source. Will be worth confirming.

Thanks again for your help!! much appreciated.
