Amp Problems

Hi, First of all I would like to say Hi and introduce my self I am Leevon and as of right now in my car i have 2 Memphis M Series 12" single Voice Coil 300 watt subs, 1 rockford fosgate p302 300 watt amp and then memphis pro series component set in all 4 doors of my 98 blaze being pushed with a 150watt memphis amp..

This is where the problem starts lol..I Have 1 power wire going into the back then i have it split into 2 1 going to my rockford and 1 going to my memphis. The rockford powers up along with the memphis then for no reason about 20 mins going the memphis amp will shut off shutting off all my door speakers?...I have tried everything from doing a better ground, swapping wires, d/c all speakers but one, also on my rockford i have a remote wire going from that to the memphis would that be the problem?. I am stuck...It never did this in my old car just now in my blazer its acting up badly and almost embarrassing.

Please help if you need more info just say so please..

Does the amp get too hot and shut off because of thermal overload protection? I had one do that once because it wasn't powerful enough to run what I was trying to run.

If you have the components wired in such a way that's drawing too much current (below the stable ohm rating) or something the amp will get really hot and shut off.

Then again you did say you disconnected all the speakers but one, so that might not be the problem.

If you have a multimeter handy you could check and see if you still have proper voltages when it does shutoff.

Just some food for thought.

The amp gets really hot almost burning....I have it sitting on top of my sub box So I tried laying down my seats for a few hours and listening then it still did it. I dont have a mulitmeter either...

k then that's almost most definately you're problem. It's going into thermal overload protection. How do you have your speakers wired into it?

I got the tweeter and sub going into the crossover i believe its called then the power going from the crossover to the amp

I mean for the memphis amp that's shutting off, you said you had all of your door speakers wired into it. Is it a 2 channel or 4 channel and how do you have the speaker wires physically connected to the amp?

i got them bridged i believe its 2 channel...And it still wouldnt make sense if I only have 1 speaker tweeter hooked up???

Yea when I had this same hook up in my 94 explorer everything was fine it never shut off not once...Since i have the remote wire comming from the deck into the rocford then from the rockford to the memphis is that bad?

Shouldn't be the remote wire, it's purpose is just a 12v signal to tell the amp to turn on. I've had them daisied chained before with no problems.

Go look at how you wired them up again, maybe you missed something.

If the amp is getting burning hot there has to be an issue with how you have your speakers hooked up.

When I was just messing around after I got some new speakers, I hooked them up to a crappy 300W amp and after 5 mins the thing would shut off, then 5 or 10 min later turn back on. It was because the speakers were trying to pull more than the amp could put out.

If you're running 2 sets of components then 150W isn't going to be near enough to push those speakers like they should be. Also if you have everything bridged then there's a good chance you've gone below the amps stable ohm rating.

Don't know why it would be acting up now if you've had it wired the same way as you always have.

Yea i was outside checking my front driver side door and everything is how it should be...I turned off my rockford and then turned up the deck about a 1/4 of the way and then again it just shut off not in power protection just shut down. Then about 1 second later on then another second off just repeatedly until i turn it down

I meant settings on the amp like the gain or bass boost or something.

I don't really know what it could be other than overload protection. Sorry man, maybe someone else can chime in.

when you say disonected the speakers, at the speakers or at amp?
if at the speakers then disconect from amp all speakers then try
if problem goes away you have faulty wiring, still same take to shop and get repaired,it sounds like a power transistor in amp has died

you do have amp fuse? on the main power feed in?

I disconnect the speakers at the amp...there is no shop here in idaho for memphis audio and yea the amp fuse is in its a 30 and also one on the line going in which is 60 i believe

To me it sounds like amp, thermal over load cutting in and with no load (speakers) it shouldnt cut in
i know here in NZ there is only about 5 places in all of the country that repair car audio gear, so if you took to a car audio shop they will send it away, get them to test 1st b4 repair to see if the cost of repair is worth it

all so dont mount amps on top/side of sub boxs, vibration will couse dry solder joints even cracking the circuit board
i have seen this a number of times over the years
i used to work as an car audio installer a few years ago and we repaired inhouse too
