Using EQ and Crossover designed for Pro Audio in car?

There are number of 31 band EQ and crossovers that are "rack mountable" used by recording studios and PA systems.

But most of them works off of a 120V AC power.

Are there anyone that uses 9V DC or 12V DC power adaptor? Anyone tried to pop the case open and figured out what the AC->DC conversion is needed and bypass the power supplies and connect directly to car DC power (with conversions)?

Would this work? or should I just stick to dedicated 12V electronics?

well here's one that is right in the front page of the car audio forums today...

also check out turbocad's posts.. he was/is putting a rack based processor. There quite a few people doing the rackmount to car conversions, just gotta search a bit.

Behringer and DBX Drive Rack are the two most commonly used options out right now.

Both require the PSU to be converted.

To see a thread comparing the two: http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...ad.php?t=20225

some only require a +/-15 volt supply, but some require a multi voltage power supply such as the Behringer piece.

I've heard if all it needs is +/-15V, there is or was an Image dynamics power supply. I think Zapco or PPI might also of had power supplys at one time that you could use. Not sure though.

Rane is also another popular brand that is/was used because I THINK it could ran off of 12V
directly.

If you were eying one up in particular, it wouldn't hurt to ask the company. They be able to divulge that info for you.
