Question 2003 Sable head unit connection

This is my first foray into carputering and as luck would have it, nobody’s been hurt
yet. As you can see from the attached photo, everything is coming together rather
nicely, but my progress on this project seems to be inversely proportional to my daily
exercise routine.

Still, it’s fun and I’ve leaned quite a lot from reading the variety of postings as well as
the more specific newbe type FAQs designed to keep folks like me from asking the same
questions over and over again. That said, my progress is slowing as I get closer to
finishing. I would like to channel my new toy through my existing OEM head unit.
I’ve read the threads on doing it, but not all head units are created equal and replacing
this one is not an option. It would have been nice if I could have learned from someone
else’s learning curve, but I’ve searched around and haven’t found anyone here that has
done an install, least of all an elegant one, on a 2003 Sable. For those not acquainted
with this vehicle, the head unit cluster includes the radio and climate control.

On the unlikely chance I missed one, I still need a consult on wiring here. This radio/
cassette has a CD option that permits installing a CD player/changer in the trunk by
means of an existing plug-in harness. There are a couple of companies that make a
device that allows an Ipod to car connections as well as a PC to car connections using
the existing harness permiting the head unit to control the computer audio.

Has anyone here had any experience with them, are you happy with them, are they
necessary, or is there a better way. I know this is an old problem for this car, but it’s
not going away and maybe there are some new thoughts on the problem.
Thanks for all the help so far and thanks in advance for what’s yet to come.
