I was wondering if there was a usb radio or serius/xm unit that did not need a car's stock antennae input.

I have my headunit all the way I want it and don't want to change anything back there. could I use a smaller antennae or thing that the home devices use?

The cleanest way to input the Sat radio's signal is via a direct connection to your head unit via some kind of bus cable, 2nd would be a RCA input on your head unit, 3rd would be an antenna injection where the factory antenna plugs into a box that plugs into the factory radio, after that comes wireless FM modulators & then finally tape adapters. There are probably more options but that covers the ways that 90% of people input additional signals into a system.

maybe I wasn't clear, My main goal is to use serius on my car pc and road runner................but aren't there handheld sirius or xm units?

or at least I know there is an alarm clock sized unit. why can't I just do something like that for the signal, but input the signal into a USB PC serius card?

is this possible?

Yes, but they don't interface with the PC particularly well.

And satellite radio doesn't use the car's stock antenna (or aerial, in the UK) to receive signals. It uses a special satellite antenna to get information from the broadcast satellites.

oh ****, the xm and serius doesn't use the car antennae? then I don't have the problem anymore.

so when I buy a serius usb device, it has it's own antennae and I can just run it whereever I want? what about regular or HD radio, could I avoid using the car antennae plug for those as well?

You're going to need a radio antenna of some sort. Teh car antenna is already there, so why not put it to good use?

(what I want to do, is NOT have to run anymore cables or wires to my HU. Since we put men on the moon 40 something years ago, I was thinking I could find a usb serius device and just plug that into my car pc which is under my seat. It would be easy to run a wire under the carpet to the back if I do need to put some kind of signal reciever for it.

what do indoor xm or serius reciever use? see, i've never seen one so i have no idea if they use an antennae or not.

maybe I should just download instructions for a usb serius reciever before I start asking questions. maybe I didn't search enough yet so I'm sorry if I asked stupid questions.

As stated, it's Sirius.
And no, you do not need a standard car antenna for Sirius satellite radio (or XM satellite radio, in case that ever comes into question).
You CAN, however, use your stock radio antenna to receive HD radio signals, which you also discussed.



Well, 40 years ago when we put a man on the moon, satellite radio wasn't even on the horizon.
Sorry to burt your delusional bubble, but there's no satellite radio device like that.


They use a satellite antenna. IT's ususally a little puck, about the size of a BU353, maybe a little thicker.

I have a Sirius Radio in my car that has both AUX and USB ports. The subscription just expired. I would prefer to have a portable that I could take from a "dock" in my home/office and plug into the AUX or USB connection on the existing car (equipped for satillite) radio. Is that possible? If so, will the portable unit (once plugged into the car's unit) find the signal using the vehicle's satillite antenea?

no, each sat. radio device needs its own antenna.

and before you ask, most factory antenna's use proprietary connections, and possibly software to decode the signal, so it is not very likely that you can hack the factory antenna, unless your are very familiar with satillite wiring and programming.
