amp for speakers and sub

hi, im quite new to this and if you guys could help me would be much appreciated.

i just got a laptop to use as a carputer. now i understand the bit about using a Y splitter then RCA adapters to plug into 4 channel amp and power 4 speakers, i think i get that, but how would i go about powering a sub aswell? is there such thing as a 5 channel amp? and can it all be powered off 1 head-phone socket on a laptop? if anyone has got a detailed wireing diagram for this it would be very helpfull to me.

thanks, graeme

There are such things as 5-channel amps - the Memphis Belle comes to mind.

A better solution (IMO) than splitting the lines would be to use an amp(s) that have an output to daisy-chain to other amps. That is, RCA to one amp (be it 2 or 4 channel), then from that amp to the next, etc.

Or an amplifier or EQ/Processor that accepts spdif in digital coaxial or optical cable output from the computer through onboard connections (if applicable) or USB adapters
