Jetta... Monsoon?

Hey everyone,

Well i have a 2001 jetta wolfsburg edition

This is what i did so far... replaced the origanl head unit with a dubble din kenwood head unit... now i dont plan on getting any new speakers or any subs cause i dont have the money but what i do want to do is buy an amp and install it into my car...

but... i need help on knowing if i have a monsoon amp thing or not... where would it be located in the car? i checked the trunk and didnt see anything, im not sure if its like under some carptening or not... but if its not in their then why did my car come with a reference guide to Monsoon/premium sound system guide?

but the whole main idea of this is i want my sound to sound alot better then it is... just by replacing the head unit it made it sound a ton better, now i want to know if i were to buy an amp could i just hook up the stock speakers?

thanks

Well you'll have to cut the speaker cables to install the aftermarket amp anyway so it's irellevant if you have an aftermarket amp or not since you've already changed to an aftermaket headunit.

CAUTION!!!! adding an amp will not add bass to your system, and if the kenwood unit made everything sound that much better, you do not have a factory amp---you would not notice that much of a difference in sound if you did (the factory amps are speced for the factory HU---meaning that the amp would acutally make the sound of your car almost as bad as before you switched head units) there is nothing that can add bass exept a company called waves car audio, which uses phsyco-acoustics to improve bass response--this is bad in two ways-- 1. prolonged listening will give you headaches, 2. it is pretty pricey, especially just to improve bass

i think it is just a better idea to bear with it now and get a sub later

If you do have the Monsoon Premium Sound system you cannot run the stock speakers with an aftermarket amp.

If you have the Monsoon sytem, the amp is located in the trunk. It's bolted to the bottom of the rear deck on the passenger side.
