Audiovox Fm Modulator

Hello,

I am not really that new to the world of car audio but am having a problem with the simple installation of a newley purchased FM modulator and hopefully you knowledgeable people can help me out.....

I installed the FMM100A into my father's 2000 chevy silverado so I he could play his mp3 player through the factory radio. I have checked and re-checked every possible aspect and cannot get any sound through the FM selected frequency.

The install is very basic, connect the power to the positive on the battery (or radio power), ground to a ground, plug the modulator basically inline between the in and outs of the antenna route (with adapters), plug the mp3 player y adapter into the rca inputs of the modulator and flip the switch and you should be able to hear sound on 88.7 or 89.1 as long as you match the selected frequency on the modulator to the tuned radio station. I can hear a slight difference when I flip the switch on. I can hear a slight radio station coming in (you know when you are one frequency away and the radio is trying to pull in the signal) and when I flip the switch on it cuts it to complete static and I cant hear any reception. I am assuming this is what I want to since it is a sign it is cutting the radio reception out so I can play the signal from the input device.

The only possible thing I can think of is for some reason the one adapter from standard to GM mini size is not allowing the signal but the radio stations come in when in regular radio mode so I don't think that is it. Also, they make a FMM100A and FMM100 but I think the only difference is an inline filter for noise.

What an I doing wrong?

Moved to Car Audio.

This forum is dedicated to CarPCs and installing them in your car.

The car audio forum is dedicated to integrating your car audio system with your CarPC.

For specific questions related to car audio equipment systems that do not include CarPCs, I would recomend checking out car audio specific forums:

Good luck.

pancit175 is on a distinguished road
2 possibilities:
1.) Simply put, bad unit

2.) If you attempted to install this inline of the antenna line at any other place but behind the radio. If and only if you didnt hook it up directly to the back of the radio with the help of antenna adapters, there are some GMs that the antenna line connectors are the reverse of what is behind the radio.
For example, The radio has a female plug, and the antenna is male ended. But some disconnection points in the line of the antenna have the radio side of the cable male and the antenna side is female.
My reasoning behind this is when you activate the some FM mods it interrupts the antenna line and sends the signal to the radio. So if its backwards all its doing interrupting and sending the signal towards the antenna. So make sure that the FM mod's male plug is facing towards the radio.
