Intel D201GLY to RF

I want to use the Intel D201GLY mobo audio and go to my Rockford Fosgate Punch 150. I think the inputs are preamp(line level). So that mean they are just signal with no voltage correct? But the Intel mobo would be putting out voltage to drive desktop speakers, which would be too much for the amps correct?

What about putting a PCI Audigy card in. Does that output preamp level or "speaker level"?

First off, you can't have a signal without voltage. Every type of output, including line level, has voltage on it. Typically, it is about 1V PTP. High end equipment is as high as 8V PTP.

The output of your motherboards sound card isn't really what I would call "powered", it is barely enough to drive a set of headphones, and it is certainly not enough to upset your amp. Most motherboards are not designed to drive speakers anymore. Just make sure you start off with the gain on your amp all the way down and adjust it from there.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. I think I understand now. Are there pci sound cards that output rca or do you have to get the y adapters and go from "phono" to rca. I was planning on 5.1, but now I don't think it is worth the trouble. Should I go usb, pci, or onboard of the intel mobo for sound if I'm going to RF amps to MB Quarts?

you can go from headphone jack to RCA. but the voltage will be an issue. find all the specs for your sound card and see if the output voltage is listed.

There are some that output RCA, but they are rare, so it will be much easier to buy Y adapters. The cheapest route would be to try out the onboard intel sound card and see if it suits your needs. If it doesn't, I'd go with a PCI sound card over a USB, simply to save the USB port for something else. If you can find a sound card with 1V or better output, you should be fine.
