First off, you can't have a signal without voltage. Every type of output, including line level, has voltage on it. Typically, it is about 1V PTP. High end equipment is as high as 8V PTP.
The output of your motherboards sound card isn't really what I would call "powered", it is barely enough to drive a set of headphones, and it is certainly not enough to upset your amp. Most motherboards are not designed to drive speakers anymore. Just make sure you start off with the gain on your amp all the way down and adjust it from there.
