I'd say your best bet would be to hook the iPod/iPhone directly into your audio system.

why not just use the ipod cable and sink your iphone to the pc and use it from there?

I currently sync my ipod with my carputer. This makes updates so much easier. No having to disconnect my carputer or network to my home PC. All i do is sync ipod with Desktop then sync carputer with Ipod. Everything nice and clean.

i think mostly all the ipod interfaces are for car oem navigation setups. Haven't seen any interface between a pc and ipod.
