Onboard audio help

Is it possible to go from the onboard audio of a Intel D201GLY2 mobo to 4 channel audio without a soundcard?

Looking at the link you give I don't think you can. Check out page 14 of this PDF.

You could just split the audio outputs into two pairs. But i've no idea if that will achieve your end goal.

I don't need surround sound I just want stereo. Is that considered 2 channel? Then I may be able to just split them.

If that is all you are looking for, then yes just split the stereo output into 4 channels. I thought that you were looking for surround sound/true 4 channel audio. Sorry!

What about sound quality? I am not an audiophile I just want something HU quality. My car has a stock Pioneer system that sounds pretty good. Will the onboard be comparable?

Splitting the signal shouldn't effect the sound quality.

Should be - note I presume you're aware you'll need to amplify it.

Ya I plan on using the stock amp. Its only 270W but it gets the job done and makes my life easier.

If he uses a Y cable doesn't that 1/2 the voltage going to each channel? Can't this effect SQ? I am not sure on this just curious. I have 2 amps 1 4 channel and another 2 channel. I was at first just using the line out on my card and splitting it to my amps but after I used separate cables for each amp (total of 3 cables ... 2 went to the 4 channel amp and 1 to the 2 channel amp) my system sounded much better. I know this isn't an option for him unless he wants to upgrade but thought I would mention so he would know what he would get from upgrading to different soundcard. That is assuming that what I stated above is correct.

Wires connected in parallel have the same voltage at each branch, but current is divided through each branch.

Well after talking with my buddy today I have decided to go with a 4 channel soundcard. I was a little confused with the 2 channel setup, I'm new to this car audio thing. Anybody have a good recommendation for a 4 channel pci soundcard? I'm looking $100ish price range.
