Problem with 2003 Tahoe Bose System

I just purchased my Tahoe and it has a problem with Bose Sound System. The sound can be heard through the speakers occasionally and usually when the key has been turned off and I haven't left the car. Somtimes when I start up it will work for a brief period and then fade out. The backseat connections do allow me to plug in headphones and listen to the system anytime. I want to avoid a visit to the dealership and the bill that follows. Does anybody have any advice?
