Gain settings...

Hey all,
I have a Power Acoustik SL4-1000 amp and am using a Fusion FX-45 equalizer/linedriver that puts out 8VRMS to the amp. My speakers are MB Quart RVF 216 and MB Quart RVF 269.
Right now i have them set at 1/2 for both sets of speakers.

- Should i be able to turn the gain on the amps all the way up? Or does it not work that way...?

-Sometimes the rear ones pop on certain frequencies. Is there any good set of frequencies to test for popping?

It does not work that way. One way (for the mid-bass, door type speakers, not tweeters) is to play back a single frequency sine tone and adjust gain until you hear the speaker slightly change frequency (it does that because the gain is too high and square waves - with higher frequency content - are being generated). There are a lot ways. most any car audio forum would probably have this topic addressed many times.

You will never have to turn your gain up all the way. Never ever..ever..

As I said in another thread:

5. Adjust your bass/treble boosts to your pleasure. Be careful not to overdue the bass boost.

And remember, gain is not volume!!!

Btw the way the popping from MB quarts comes from having the crossovers set too low. Turn your high pass (hp) filter on and set it until the popping goes away. Those speakers are not meant to play low frequencies. You'll need a subwoofer to cover that. I suggest you go to www.diyma.com/forum or www.caraudio.com/forum for more information on this subject.
