yea.. i've heard people say that but i've personally never done it and never had a speaker blow in my life. I've never seen the number as high as 40 hours either. That would be like a month and a half before i could turn the volume up on the speakers in my car lol.

I recently purchased a pair of M6's. I called CDT and asked if they recommend any type of "break in" time. They said no.

yea.. i would think something like that would be mentioned in the instructions of speakers if it really applied.. i know that speakers settle and that usually results in a fuller sound over time but i've never heard i have to play them at low volumes for a set period

I've heard the break in procedure before, but I heard it was 40 MINUTES and only on older speakers. Most manufacturers test the speakers before they send them out, and in that test it seats the voice coil, and is "broken in"

Play them at a normal volume from the start. You'll be just fine. (And nice speakers, I used to have a set of the old PRS's from a few years back, and they were awesome.)

it was a writen by the, supplyer i don't have that any more, but what i can fined is part of the manual, it says 15-20 hours (running in time), so the 40 was to mutch.

that was on the note, threw it away ones the speakers where broken in.

I think that it just meant not turning it up to max volume for at least that amount of time.

Here's the deal though. Pioneer is a HUGE company, they have a 90 day limited warranty, and no where does it say anything about a break in period. So, if something happens, it will happen before 90 days, and you'll be fine.

Break in itself I don't think is a myth. It's a proven fact that some speakers (especially subwoofers and mid-bass drivers) take some time to break in before they mellow out. This is due to the spider, surround, etc flexing and reverberating from the music being played. After some time, these parts become more responsive and "quicker" with the bass response. That's why many times you'll think your speakers sound strange when first installed, but after a week or 2 using them they get more responsive and the response curve smooths out.

I do think that having to break in speakers some "special" way is a waste of time though. Fact of the matter is regular listening is the best way to break any speaker in. It just takes time. Also, like others have said, they warranty the speakers for 90 days. If you can't get in ~40 hours of listening in after 3 months, there's no point in upgrading your speakers anyway. You don't listen to them enough for it to matter.

Ive had speakers ive had to break i before, big name brand, not from a you must be careful sort of thing, but they didnt sound as good right out of the box, very thin sounding, after about 15 to 20 hours, they sounded way better had a more full range. i still didnt like them so sent them back anyway...

its not a myth, but its not recommended for some speakers to thrash them right away.
some are obviously warmed up in the factory and some are not.

Think of it like a marathon runner; he's not going to be able to run a 5k right off the bat, he'll need to warm up, but walking for 5k isn't going to accomplish that. He'll need to jog a little or run a little first.

You're speakers aren't going to be ready to play at full volume out of the box, but playing at low volume isn't going to warm them up or break them in.
