Indeed, that are the 2 most important options you just named...

You will need an amplifier between your pc and your speakers. Most flexibility is reached if you use a 4ch amp with a 4ch (or 5.1) sound card. Keep in mind that the drivers must support 4.0 sound if you use a 5.1 or 7.1 card, otherwise you will lose all sound that's meant to come out of the center speaker and sub...

You can also go the easy way and buy a USB connected amplifier...

Good luck!

thanks for that. I figured a sound card that has 4 channels would be good. but would 5.1 sound card be better if i wanted to have a sub? at this point in the game i'm just mapping out my options. but a sub i can do with out for now cause of the extra weight and high as hell gas prices...lol.....

You can use a 5.1 card and use it in 4.1 config to be able to control the sub from your computer... OR just add a sub linked to the rear speakers and control it on the amp (crossover and level).
