Hear XM/mp3 and gps over radio

I've been looking for a cheap way to hear my gps when it alerts while I'm listening to my XM/mp3. I've tried plugging them both into a y stereo connector and then into aux in. I've also tried using a fm modulator but that doesn't work either. The ideal gadget would allow the GPS to be heard louder than the music or just cut the music entirely. Somebody must have thought of this problem before . Antone have any ideas.

if your computer is running the gps software, your frontend may mute the music for you.

I know RoadRunner can mute or just lower the volume by some percent while the nav directions are spoken and then put the music back up. Very helpful.

I'm asking for a cheap way of doing it or a DIY way.

Just solder your audio wires together.

Not the best, is dangerous, so dont do it to high end stuff, but it is cheap and will work.

Do you mean speaker wires? I tried putting my XM and Gps on a Y connector and plugged it into a FM transmitter and you couldn't make out what either on was saying clearly. Seems like their would be a really low cost way of combining two sources and have the gps overide the XM when it gives directions.

search for mixer, there is a stereo/mono mixer on that site that is pretty simple
http://headwize.com/projects/showfil...=opamp_prj.htm

also search for the LF353 mixer ic and you'll find some other schematics
