Xenarc MDT-x7000 sound issues.. need advice

So I finally got to hear my x7000 in my car tonight... Annnd

There is a slight whine coming from it when it's playing a CD, not too bad, but I can hear it.

I also found that it doens't like the subaru stock sub. It was bottoming out the voltage on the unit causing it to skip. Though after I shorted a fuse and replaced it, it doens't seem to do that now so I dunno.

BUGS I've found:
The slowness of the volume dial is a PITA, but I knew that one.

It won't let you change tracks with the screen closed... but when the screen opens it issues the last command from the job dial.

Does anyone know how to change that horrible background image?

I also have the same problem. I've read in another thread that the gain needs to be increased, but I have no idea what gain this is :-(

What firmware version do you have? It'll look like...

Firmware version is: Host : 297, Slave : 189.

To check the firmware version of your unit, press (on the remote) Memo (+), 4, 3, 8.

Yea,
I got word back from xenarc, I'm going to try to RMA it. I have the older firmware that won't select the PC input when starting up.

However,
They documented the volume problem so it's a "feature"
As is the lack of control with the screen closed. They suggest using the remote when it's closed!! Because that's a great Idea when driving!! Ugh

Haha Oh another thing with the 7000, They didn't isolate the ground on the USB, or the video outputs shielding. I found this out when I unplugged the unit ground and the system was still running. Tons of noise appeared and I went hrmph WTF, oh I bet, pulled the USB and video. Poof there's your ground loop.

Morale of the story, your head unit and car pc had better be on the same ground and pretty close at that!
