I am new to these forums but do like to chip in where I can.

Firstly it entirely depends on your setup:

With a carputer you basically need an output from a sound card, then you need an amplifier to boost the signal, and finally the speakers to output.
I would personally recommend you buy an active (amplified) sub that saves having to wire it in and literally can just sit in your boot, one sub should be enough. The 'tweeters' I'm assuming you mean mid-range, tweeters deal with just high frequencies say 8kHz and above, the door speakers will be mid-range and for these I've never bought an amp but there are good amp reviews in this forum. If you do want tweeters then you are going to need a crossover which routes the right frequencies to the right speakers, the sub will have one built in if its active. If you would like surround sound then you will need to make sure you have an amplifier channel per surround channel so for 5.1 you will need 6, or 5 if you have the active sub. One thing to look for in amps is the power output, as I already stated I wouldn't know what is a typical amp for the mid-range speakers but I should imagine 150-300 watts should be plenty for what you want, that's RMS (a type of average) and not MAX. If you need a sub amp then you will need a value of about 500W+ RMS as these require greater power.

Secondly if you have just the head unit then surround sound will more than likely be out of the question, unless you have many speaker connections on the rear of it.
Again it is a very simple case of output from the head-unit into the amp then from the amp into the speakers.

I hope this helps, sorry if it is all what you already knew and remember that these are very approximated figures and every car/user preference will differ.

Joey
