USB sound turns to static

Hi all.

Firstly my old user-name doesn't work anymore :@ so this will have to do.

I've just rebuilt my carPC and put a sound card in the boot. It's a small cheap thing by G-star. It usually works fine but every 30 minutes or so the audio starts to sound static like. The music is still audible but it's engulfed in static.

Could it be due to a long (5m) USB cable? although I'd have expected it not to work in the first place if the cable was too long.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Psy.
