SQ - Audiobahn AW831T or Kicker CVT652
Hi,
I have a Lexus 1990 LS400 (Toyota Celsior), and I am replacing the factory Pioneer subwoofer from the parcel shelf, It's a 2 Ohm 40 watts RMS Subwoofer.
I need something with a shallow mounting space and something that can run at 2 ohms, at a price of about $100, I'm after decent sound quality, doesn't have to be perfect but I don't want blunt bass.
It's a decision between the Audiobahn AW831T 8" or Kicker CVT652 6.5".
What are your thoughts people, Many people mentioned that Audiobahn is horrible, but I would just like to see your thoughts as it's a hard choice between the two
Thankyou.

Audiobahn went out of business. I would not suggest them for that very reason. No warranty or tech support.
When you say the mounting depth is only 10 cm it doesn't give you many options.
Looks like you found a good place to go thou.

I don't recommend buying "Audiobling" anything. It was all about show rather than quality. The only decent use I ever seen for that stuff was in fact for show in reverse mounted sub installations where the sub's motor was totally visible. There are several companies making good quality shallow mount subs these days, however your $100 budget will likely kill you on that note. Shop the classified sections on a few of the car audio sites and you will likely find yourself a decent used shallow mount sub. Many people have gone this route only to take it back out, and then decide to sacrifice the space they were trying to save for rock solid bass as they find out that shallow mount subs will not give you the gut pounding bass that they were hoping for.

I can't say enough good things about Aurasound...I have a single NS10" and it's all I want.
Might not be a drop-in fit, but MAKE it fit!!
An Kicker 8" or 6.5" isn't going to give you want your looking for...

i have heard many good things about aura sound, but have never heard them.
A shallow mount sub would be a bad idea on a parcel shelf unless you will have a small enclosure behind it-- shallow mount subs are designed for small spaces, and little air movement, if you put one in a parcel shelf, using the trunk for airspace, it will very likely sound nothing like what it should.
it would be best to go with a 10-12" sub that is designed for free air enclosures.

Hi,
There is a small enclosure behind the subwoofer, It's not a solid box though

1.there really isn't too many factory enclosures will be able to take the abuse from the changing pressure levels of a aftermarket sub. it really depends on how well built the enclosure is.
2.becasue the enclosure was built to house the factory sub, it might not meet the space requirements of the aftermarket sub.
if you really want to mount a aftermarket sub there, it would be best to either find a encloure that was made for the sub you want, or build one that is properly sized for the sub and location that you will be mounting it in.
just remember that the box makes the sub-- a poorly built/too small/too large box will hurt the sound, and in rare cases, the sub.

Hi,
I'm going to be running it off the factory subwoofer amplifier, I don't' want a huge subwoofer just an 8" as any bigger wont fit on the mounting bracket, however it is hard to find a 2 ohm subwoofer, apart from the kicker.

at 40wrms that amp is not going to work for any aftermarket subs.
