my mono amp has 4 places to hook my speakers up(2 pos. & 2 neg.)(like a 2 channel)in the instruction booklet it shows the positive wire going from the speaker then splitting into two lines and hooking into both positive terminals in the amp, and the same with the negative side....my question is, do i need to splice my pos.&neg. wires to fill up all four terminals? or can i just run the one pos. wire into the amp and one neg.???? does anybody with a mono amp know WTF im talking about!? does the picture not mean split the wire, but that its universal and i can run the wire to either terminal as long as i got a neg&pos????

i had to think about this one and i think i got it...a speaker wire is actually two wires, on for pos and one for neg.....im assuming i run BOTH wires into subs pos. terminal and split the other end and run one wire into each pos. terminal in the amp and the same with the negatives... does this sound right?seems like the idea!

ok i actually got 3 dvc subs that im running series/paralell. this requires me to run a wire from 1 pos. to 1 neg. on each side...then run the positives to the amp and the negs to the amp. should i continue to use both wires, when i hook up 1 pos to 1 neg voice coil? and both wires when i hook the positives togather and run to the amp, and negs togather to run to amp? i hope this makes sence, if not tell me im retarded and ill try to explain it better!!!!!!

If your amp truly is a mono block, then the two positive and two negative are just there for convenience. In that case, the positive share the same piece of metal and so do the negative... kind of like a y cable.

are their any pros and cons to wiring series vs parallel (other then ohms) it seems like wiring my three dvc subs parallel/parellel is better than wiring parallel/series because lower impedance, why would anyone choose parallel/parallel? is it because they dont have an amp with low enough ohms, so they wire par/ser? ya know what i mean??? im a stoner, sorry

What is the make and model of your subs and amp?

As far as why go parallel or series, the exact reason is impedance. Impedance is a direct factor in how much power your amp is pumping to the subs. Too much or too little impedance and the amp could put out more (or less) power than desired, potentially blowing the subs. Also, too low of an impedance might damage the amp, or might not even be possible with the amp. Whether you wire them all parallel, all series, or a combination of both, the impedance is what matters in the end. Often times people who don't understand this buy an amp that looks like it matches the subs, but in reality will only put out 1/4 of the power they expect after they hook it up. Calculating the proper impedance and power levels will keep you safe in this area.

#1 option- if i wire my subs ser/par its 1.33 ohms
#2 option- if i wire them par/par its .33 ohms
my amp is 1 ohm stable
im thinking #2 would fuk my speakers?
is #1 the correct way to fly?


btw i have 3 dvc 2ohm 10" 450watt rms subs
my amp is 1200watt rms mono, 1 ohm stable

#1 and you're set.

Option 2 would overheat your amp / send it into protection mode... so skip that idea.

Yeah, that can be a PITA depending on the car. I've done it a bunch of different ways, but through the factory wire harness location is one of my favorite ways. Not saying its the solution for you, but consider it. Just take off the tape, pull the wire through with a coat hanger and then tape it up again.

If the amp does 1200 watts at 1ohm, it will be putting out about 900 watts at 1.33ohms. This really isn't enough for those three subs. You could very well get clipping at higher volumes.
