Amp in protect

Well i installed a dual 600 watt amp to push my memphis m3 in my boat i installed a toggle switch on my remote wire like ive done many times....but my amp keeps going into protect and i cant figure out why. i have tried everything i know how to do i took off the speaker wires completly off the amp and still protect. it turn on and is in protect and then the light slowly fades away and if i flip the toggle off then right back on the light doesn't come on at all i am grounded straight to the battery....is that ok? i dont know what to do anymore any ideas? please help
