X-Fi sound card issue

I hooked up my X-fi and I'm having a problem with my sound and windows. My rear speakers are a lot louder than my front so I use windows speaker balancer to adjust the volume to balance it a little better, however, the second I go to any program and use the volume control it resets all of my settings and blasts the volume to the max and resets everything. I'm at a complete loss and I can't figure it out. Is it my sound card or a setting? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Just a hunch, but are you using winamp? If you are, try disabling the setting that allows winamp to control windows volume.

Probably should have mentioned my specs and rig setup haha. Im running this on Windows XP Pro, using Centrafuse and Ride Runner. I was having this problem well before I started using Ride Runner and Win Amp. I have been having this issue the second I hooked up the sound card and tried to use Windows media player.

Any way I said screw it, Im tired of messing around with a $50 sound card I just went back to my USB Sound Blaster Live! 24 bit. So Im going to iron out all of the issues with the old card and go from there. Im still having issues with the rear being a lot louder than the front but Im thinking that might be an issue with my amp.
