Best subs for M1000 Amp

hello, i am new to this forum, and well car audio in general, been trying to learn. I have had a MRP-M1000 alphine amp for some months now, and i have been wanting to get some kicker subs for it. I want to go with L7's becuase they are newer and can handle more than the L5's but my amp wont push two 10" L7's will it?

Amp
1000W RMS x 1 2 ohms
600W RMS x1 4 ohms

i do plan on getting another alphine amp just like the one i have but, should i go with 2 ohm subs? or 4 ohm subs? and will it be able to run okay til i get my other amp?

subs
2 ohm

4 ohm

am i on the right track? or what should i do sub woofer wise, and remember i plan on getting another amp.... i understand its not good to underpower anything

thanks, Mike

Welcome Mike, yes, you are on the right track.

A 1000w amp and a pair of ported L7s can get pretty damn loud. I would recommend trying the set up with one amp first before you go spending a few hundred more on another amp... that you might not even need!

However, that poses a problem... if you choose to use a single amp you would want the dual 2ohm version and if you decide to run two amps, you would be better off with the dual 4ohm version. Read this to get a better understanding: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=161. This is all in an effort to present a 2ohm load to your amp.

$650 is a large budget for subs, you can find some pretty nice equipment in that price range so shop around a bit more, talk to some people, listen to some systems and hop on some car audio forums. FYI: Kicker L7s and a box can be found on craigslist for pretty cheap.

Now go build a CarPC!

The Alpine Type R series of subs are also very popular. Two of the 4 ohm ones in parallel would make use of the 1000 watts perfectly.
