Amp or no Amp

Hi

New here, and trying to get my first car pc going. I pretty much have all the PC parts sorted now, but I know next to nothing about car audio.

I have a Toyota Avalon 2002 Grande which I believe have 6 speakers (4 regular 2 tweeters) and a small sub. I plan to completely remove the head unit so I will need to work out a way to connect the speakers to the PC.

At this stage I am looking at a standard 4 channel amp and maybe a second one to run the sub, but I have been told that most amps out there will either blow my factory speakers or be pretty crap on power. I am trying to avoid replacing the speakers too since that is an extra cost again on top of an already expensive protect.

I honestly wouldnt have the first clue on what to look for, let alone how to connect it so I was hoping to get some input from those who know better than me on car audio, and better than a car audio salesman on PCs

Without a headunit you will need an amp. It's up to you to decide if the sound quality you get from an aftermarket amp and factory speakers is good enough for you or not but without the amp you won't hear anything at all from the speakers.

from what you have explained, there is a high possiblity that you already have a amp in your car

i am going to assume a couple of things here, so double check everything before ordering

using crutchfields 'outfit my car', i entered that you have the jbl audio system-- double check wheather you do or not.

according to that, you can use the factory amp, so you will need a adapter like this:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1207081...s.html?tp=2977

and these:

1 to go from computer stereo audio to rca output:

2 of these to split up the signal to the front and rear speakers:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=3295840

and 1 pair of these to connect the y adapters and 1/8-rca adapter(this is a 2 pack, so you would just need this one item)
http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2102665

if you shop around, you can probably find better priced items, but this should give you a good idea of what you need.

now, if you do not have the jbl audio system, you will need a amp-- (search for motorcycle amps on ebay--they're cheap and small and should work)

Sweet

Thanks for that info! Thats exactly what I wanted to hear.

Just out of interest, any idea how I can find out whether its JBL or not? its a Grande, and all the research I have done indicates that the Grande had the upgraded JBL audio, but I am in Australia and I cant find any definates for the Australian 2002 model.

Again many Thanks for the help

i have not looked at toyotas for a while, but, usually, there is some sort of badging on/near the radio/speakers, indicating it is the premium sound system.
