I found this http://dmzweb4.europe.creative.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=659,E=0000000000025485616,K=3319,Sxi=0,Case=ob j(13779),Kb=creative_cli_us
Would I need to find an amplifier that supported a digital in DIN? Or so i need some sort of device to translate form Digital DIN to RCA?

I am confused about your post. When you say Digital DIN what are you talking about. DIN is a size specifications for car stereo head units. I think it is roughly 2"x7" double DIN is 4"x7". Please be more specific with your hardware setup and details on your question
Cheers

hey anti, does that panasonic unit you have let you swith between inputs? because i want to basically use it as a head unit. So i would play all my cds and dvd through my carpc's digital out into the panasonic dsp, but if i wanted to listen to the radio, i could just change the input to rca on the panasonic and control whatever tuner i have with external controls? you think that could work? because i cant seem to figure out a good radio solution.

Is it only because most of the carPC's don't have room for a PCI card? Or is there a big difference between 5.1 and Dolby Digital and DTS?
You would loose the single PCI slot if you have an ITX board. I am using my PCI slot for a PCMCIA>PCI adaptor running a 802.11b card. Much better than a USB network card and I can slide other cars in if I ever needed to.

Depending on your space you can just slap in a 2 card riseron an ITX board anf get 2 PCI cards not just one. So no you don't loose the single PCI slot. Just put a riser in... sound plus 802.11x PCI card (I don't like PC Cards) or a PCI AM/FM tuner card if you have no headunit... all just depends on your space.

My Cubid case was a tight fit when I got it, then I stuffed an Opus 150 watt in there and relocated the HD, theres no way I am fitting anything else in there.

@phatbimmer
Yes there is a button to switch beetween digital and analog. You can use the prologic with analog to distribute the sound to each chanel
Space is usually a comodity in the carputer world i.e. i have my carputer in my glovebox so there is no way a can fit a riser card.

I was thinking of using the Midiland ADS4000 to decode spdif into six channels. Any thoughts?

I dont know if this is related to phatbimmer's question...
Does the external dsp just decode 5.1 signals or does it also convert 2 channel sources into 5.1 kinda like prologic does.
Meaning: What if you just want 2 channel normal stereo and only want 5.1 when playing dvds. Since it's only stereo, will it come out stereo, or will it be turned into "fake surround".
thanks

@l4tran
Never heard of it. Are you sure that is correct name. I did a search and couldn't find anything on it
@mbaratta
The DSP decodes both Dolby digital (5.1 codec) DTS (5.1 codec) Linear PCM (stereo codec...this is what mp3's get interpreted as) and Pro Logic which is more of an filter that takes analog and creates a "fake" surround
Also for those who are interested... One snag that I have stumbled upon is the use of the MIC and Line in with S/PDIF out.
I think this might be a driver issue because a member here that has the EPIA M10000 has the 'line in' input coming out the spdif on his HTPC.
I have tried a series of drivers listed on the viarena website and still cant get the line in to play out the S/PDIF
There are two solutions
1. run an anolog line from the PC line out to the DSP and settle for analog... or
2. Find the correct driver that will successfully acomplish this.
As of now i have already ran a Phoenix Gold RCA cable to the DSP (i havn't tested it yet though) I will keep this thread updated
