The mini-phone jack (on the back of your computer) is stereo. The y-splitter will split it into 2 RCA connectors, one for the left channle, one for the right channel.

any thoughts on this? wire a seperate on/off switch?

Huh??? Chicken or Egg?? If you wire the remote turn-on lead (which is the same thing that your power antenna has) to the +12V (yellow) on the PC molex connector then it will ONLY turn ON when the PC is on! PC goes off, +12V goes off, Remote turn-on lead goes off! Simple! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. That's the only way you'll learn!

I've been installing stereo systems for money since i was a freshman in high school. We all start somewhere!

See attached NOT FINISHED wiring diagram.

I decided to use seperate switches for the PC and amps, that way I can power on the the PC first, allow the soundcard to pop, then turn on both amps simultaneously.

Here's my first version of the electrical diagram w/o fuses:

or run it to the accessory circuit that cuts on with the car. either way will work.

EDIT: totally missed pages 2 and 3, this has already been mentioned.

Ok (resurrecting a dead thread here), i am using an external sound card and a few amps to power my system. The only problem i have is that i cant control anything. I can control things like volume, EQ, L-R balence, fader ect. from the software on my computer but i wanted a hardware solution. I dont like the idea of software controlling my audio system. I have seen various pre-amp/crossovers/EQ indash head units and only take up 1/2 din and they are exactly what i want in terms of control. However, they only provide 2 inputs, and i will require 4-6 inputs and outputs. Anyone have any options? Even DIY build it yourself kits would work for me.

EDIT: an example of what i was thinking about would be the three.1 EQ thing http://www.mobileaudiocontrol.com/pr...50&l1=5250&l2=
But like i said it only has 2 input (has 6 output though...)

just so I understand your set-up a bit more

why do you need 6 inputs?

how are you set up that it requires this?

yeah... i assume you want to have 6 inputs to perserve dolby digital/dts?

your best solution in this case would be the alpine pxa-h700 or 701 digital input with all the outputs you are asking for

well as scott said i wanted to preserve all the channels im using. I will basically have a 4.1 system in my car. I am planning on installing a mac mini in my car and i was going to connect a Griffin firewave to it to get better surround sound (front LR, back LR, sub).

So it goes:

mac mini----->Firewave-----(front LR, back LR, sub)----->volume, bass, treble, LR balence, EQ controls------>Amps----->speakers and sub

I probably do not need most of the stuff there. All i really need is volume and balance controls (the sub control i can hack off from the wired remote from a powered amp). The rest i can adjust of the computer. Like i said though some kind of diy kit or plan would work too.

jemar - are you asking where you can get a USB sound card at?

if so, you might want to rethink this install (unless there's a language barrier here??)

You can get a USB sound card just about anywhere you can buy computer parts.

Do some searching on these boards, I know that I just made a post recently that had about 10 options for USB sound cards.
