Lightbulb Relocating just the faceplate to an aftermarket HU

Ive seen a few people on here that have relocated just the faceplate to their aftermarket HU and then hid the actual HU somewhere out of sight.. ive emailed them but have not recieved any replies,, im sure there are more of you out there.. how would i go about doing this??? any info would be great,, thanks

You just need to extend the connections from the face to the base. Most people use CAT5 wire.

how face can you extent the wires. is it possible 9 feet from the floor to the head console.?

You can probably extend them pretty darn far, there's probably no high-bandwidth traffic between the HU and the faceplate. The distance is usually just a problem when you're talking about strobing the signal 50K times a second or something to transmit data. A faceplate probably 'talks' to the HU through simple, slow commands.
