amplifier

i have a 2001 diamante LS...i am going to be removing my stock stereo completely out and be going with a amp for my sound and a winTV 2000 Delux for radio and TV. My car comes with 8 speakers (completely stock)...

2 on front dash
2 tiny tweeters near side view mirror
2 front doors
2 on rear

My car already has an amp in the trunk right where i m going to put the computer! :-)

Ok my question is that can i use that amp or do i need to get another one? The amp has only 2 connections on it. One is a wire harness from speakers and the other one is coming from the stock stereo up front.

The input on the amp is a 6 pin...looks like this:

o
o o
o
o o

This sounds too easy but do all i need is a wire that goes in there and to my pc sound card and thats it? Where can i get one of those and what is it called?

P.S. i dont know jack about amplifiers or car audio...although i have installed an aftermarket stereo before w/good instructions after blowing a few fuses

Thanks for the help.

i would post pics of the amp but i dont konw how, where do i upload them?

It may be possible. Make sure it's actually an amp. I thought the factory black box in my trunk was an amp when it was really just a crossover. I replaced everything in my factory audio system (also 8 speakers) from amp to speakers. Search on forums (or google) for your vehicle for the pin outs to the adapter. I found my pinouts on the audio section of a volkswagen forum.

Setup a free account @ photobucket.com. Upload them there and use the "[img][/img]" tags. Place the URL of the images inbetween the tags in your thread to insert them in your post.

Sounds like a DIN connection to the amplifier. Metra makes connectors for several factory amplifier systems however they usually use the connection in the dash. Give them a shot before you try splicing in to that harness. On a side note, the amplifier may be speaker level in, in which case the line level from the carputer is not going to supply enough power to drive the amp.

Isn't photobucket handy?

Looks very do-able! Search for pinouts. Good luck.

yeah photobucket is neat...thanks

sorry but what do you mean by "pin outs to the adapter," is that some kind of diagram or a piece of hardware?

i m completely clueless.

If anyone has used their stock amp. please help me. Do i have to splice wires to get this to work or is there a connector available that i can just purchase?

I have been calling metra havent been able to get a hold of them yet, ill try tomorrow earlier and see what they say.

thanks

Find out where the pins on the plug go into the amp. For example; which are for power, remote turn-on (if there is one), etc...

Metra will be your best source for an adapter if there is one. I doubt power is coming through that din cable, it's probably in the speaker harness on the amp (if there's a turn on lead for the amp it'll probably be located there too). Pin out means a diagram of what pin in the connector carries what signal. You may be able to find that info through a web search although I doubt it. A factory service manual will usually have that info. Another option is to get a subscription at http://www.alldatadiy.com/index.html and see if they have that info.

ok i so i called Metra cable i need for my car and went and bought the Metra brand Amplifier to RCA cable from circuit city, and called Radio shack and they said they had a RCA to 1/8" cable.

The Metra adapter was a special order item so it will take a week or 2 to get there. As soon as i pick that up i m going to cross my fingers and see if it fits in my stock amp then go buy the the other half from radio shack and connect a pc in my garage to the car and tell you guys if i get audio bypassing the stereo completly and thru the amp.

thanks for all the help so far

OK the cable came in and i finally began disassembling my dash so i can try to see if i can get audio from my stock amp method.

Here are a couple of pictures of what i did with notes:

This first pic is of the computer in ready for me to plug in the cables for sound and hear beautiful music:

This Second Pic is of the Cables being used and an explination of what i was trying:

The end result of all this was no sound, NONE AT ALL...what am i doing wrong.

I have a feeling that the blue/white wire might need to be used but am not sure and dont know where to tap it in to (i am not an eletrician).

Also why are there 4 RCA's, is it if i have a 5.1 channel sound card? I dont have a sub in my car, btw. So i dont need to use all 4, right??

Thankssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

You need to connect the blue/white one to 12v to turn your amp on...

BUT

As your car is a mitsu and my volvo has a mitsu sound install too, you might have the problem I had. If you try your sound with no common ground connection between your computer and your amp, everything will be fine. BUT if you ground your pc to the car ground (which is also the amp ground), you could blow the fuse as the amp is MAYBE positive ground.

Just try and let us know

And 12v means: 12v from the car, NOT from your pc!

Its Working!!! Audio Thru Stock Amp

FIRST I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE ON THIS THREAD FOR HELPING ME GET THIS FAR!!!

I connected the Blue/White wire to a 12 Volt ACC source on my car and then there was sound I couldnt believe it, but it worked. There is a loud hum coming from the both rear speakers, but the music is clear and sounds great.

I am going to open a new thread after i read some of these other noise thread and see what i can try. One thing i tried already is, I disconnected both the rear speakers and the noise was compeletly eliminated and no noise coming from the front speakers, other than the "pop" when turning the computer on and off.

Thanks once again for the great advice.
