Is it blown?

I've got a stock system in my truck. left and right only, a tweeter and a 6" in each door.

The HU sucks, but the speakers sound fine. My right bass is sounding like there is alot of vibration. I pulled apart the door (which is a big step for me and required to get acces to the speaker.)

I found the tweeter had fallen out of its spot. I put it back in.... hmmm still the fine vibration sound. I removed the tweeter and used left only at the HU. still the sound. This leaves me with the conclusion that its the 6" in the door. Well I dismounted it and held it in my hand... still the god damn sound. Its almost like a hum, but sounds like crap.

I assume my speaker is blown, as it sounds hummish and its not actually vibrating anything.

I'd like to replace the 2 6" speakers with something inexpensive. I did notice that the speakers have some fancy mounting brackets around them. The speaker is glued into these.

Do I buy new brackets or pop the speaker out of the old one?
Do I glue the new one in?
The speakers have a plug on the end. Is this standard or am I going to be soldering it onto the new speakers?

If you have access to a digital camera take some pics it might help us help you. But from what you say it sounds like you should pop the factory speakers out of the mounting bracket they are glued into. You can then glue the new ones in or possibly screw them in place with self tapping screws or, just drill a pilot hole for the screw.(Thats what I did in my car) As for the the plugs, cut the factory plug off of the wire harness and attach the female crimp connectors your new speakers will come with.(Do not cut the factory plug off right next to the plug, leave yourself at least 2 inches of free wire so you could splice it back onto the factory harness if ever needed {like if you sell your truck but want to keep you speakers} then just throw all your spare parts in a box and save them, you never know.

I bought speakers 6.5" to replace the existing 6.75" ... Some Pioneers (Reference Series 6002i). I went to Radioshack and bought some quick connects. Then I ran out of sunlight, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow. I can still take pictures.

I figure to hell with the speaker bracket, I'll drill and screw directly to my door.
