well.....12 hours later we got here.....one of the guys that we were caravaning with has a big brake kit on his car.....the stainless steel lines were too long and he ended up rubbing a hole through the front drivers side line.....3.5 hours later and we had the drivers side plugged enough to where he would at least have some brake pressure.....that was at the half way point.....we had to run like 55 the ENTIRE rest of the way down here.....GAWD it sucked....

Yeah, after reading the entire thread, if both time AND money did not matter, then no doubt a PC could beat anything on the market, but if time was an issue, then you could not beat a prebuilt alpine or eclipse deck, and if time and money were both a little bit of the factor, then a hybrid system would be the best choice, which is what I will be doing.
And as for that sdashki guy, I bet he just was just trying to use anything he had ever heard to try to make his point, just because he didnt want to admit defeat.

wow thats quite a thread... just wondering thou would you consider a hybrid system "simpler" then a carputer alone?

Sure it's simpler. At that point, a CarPC is just a media server with the HU as the main source. The CarPC is nothing more than a CD changer essentially.
It will do what you want.
Personally, I won't ever use a HU in my installs...I like only having a CarPC as my source unit. There's just something to say for it.

ah, digging up the old stuff
in the end both will work & neither is a limiting factor for sound quality. with a head the PC becomes just another source like red said, but I think it's more than just a CD changer I mean everything you can do with a PC alone you can do with a PC & head unit, everything. you can still run a front end, still build custom skins for it, still browse the web, still do obd2, still do each & every thing a PC does bar none, you could ignore the head unit for months & it would be the equivalent of a PC only setup. only difference is if the PC is not on for any reason, you still have a fully functional system with a head unit.
in the end, to me it all comes down to space & how well you can set your carpc up as far as reliability & as close to 100% up time as possible. I used to think I would never want to go totally headless, but my opinion on that has changed over the years, I still think a full blown hybrid system is the ultimate if you have the space, but I now know that a PC only can still be a great thing, space & personal preference will dictate what's better for you, neither is better or worse, just different. & yeah, a lot of times a pc with a head unit is easier
wow, this thread is from back when I used to type novels in my posts

lol sry but im trying to get as much car pc info as i can and you and red have been helping me out so much ive been reading up a lil....
I think i may end up doing doing a hybrid system because of the fact that my current HU is pretty sq oriented and has alot of functions i like. plus i wont have to find a card with 6 rca outs.... i was just concerned with sq using the aux in of the HU and the 5.1 compatablitity
I guess now i just have to figure out if i want to spend 2 grand on the infil or try and build my own comp (im mainly concerned with the software issues setting up a custom unit)
