amplifier remote output question

i was wondering if it is safe to connect the remote output from my amplifier to my computer power supply (yellow wire)? i would like to turn on my amplifier same time with my computer.thank you

by yellow wire, do you mean of these three wires, power, gnd, and "ign/acc" or whatever? Like what the opus takes?

and by "remote output" do you mean the signal that tells the amp to turn on or off?

If the answer to both of those questions is yes, then the answer to your question is yes, it's safe. The remote signal on the amp uses VERY little current. Low enough that it's safe to ignore it for this purpose.

I think you'll get a "pop" from the speakers if you do that.

really? I don't, and mine is like this. My amp *might* have some sort of protection.

You know what... I think it does, because if I already have the computer running, and music playing on it, but the amp is off, and then I later put the remote lead on, the amp very slowly increases the volume from zero to whatever it's set volume is.

Maybe that's why I haven't had a problem. If this does cause a problem with other amps, then I apologize for giving incorrect advise.

nooo use a relay. if you connect the yellow wire directly to the remote turn on you'll be connecting 2 different 12 v circuits. well..more like a 12 volt circuit and a 12-14.5 volt circuit. connect it with a relay and you'll be fine.

what does it matter if you connect the 12V INPUT of two circuits?

Neither the amp nor the opus/whatever PSU does absolutely anything to affect the voltage on the remote/yellow wire.

Fanning out like this will not make a difference. And even if you did use a relay and all that, where's the 12V that goes into the relay come from? The same battery/alternator, which means that it's still all connected anyways. Sure now there are difference fuse/wire paths, so this would be helpful if either of those two wires needed high current, but they don't.

Yeah, I use a relay for my set up, the signal from the stereo goes to the coil and a second supply gets fed to the Amp / PC (ITPS). Will also be using it for trick lighting in the boot so it's worth doing for the upgrade-ability alone.

hmn...well i've never actually tried it, but i would figure that there would be some sort of ground loop or something. i'm probably wrong.

I tried the relay bit, doesn't work (Didn't make any sense anyway) Need some type of delay, so the sound card turns on before the amp.
Anyhow, I have a on/off cruise switch on my steering wheel, I tapped the remote wire (from the amp) into the cruise relay output terminal. Works great, I wait for pc to come on, then I turn the cruise control on. (cruise still works fine too.)
When I shut the car off, it shuts of the amp also, no noise when the pc shuts off or hybernates.

good stuff... yeah I guess mine works fine cause it kinda has a built in delay on the amp.
