Problem with FM Modulator!

Hi Guys,

I have just bought an FM Modulator while I save up for a decent amp and I have wired this in finally and the sound works a treat! The only thing is, when I use the modulator the screen goes distorted! Could this be inteference from the 2 sound cables (white and red) to the yellow video cable which goes into the screen?

If it is, how can I prevent this?

Thanks

Poom

Not sure on that, but I am going to be hooking up a similar situation tonight or this weekend. I'll let you know how mine goes.

It seems to work on some programs and games but not others!

Even when the FM modulator is not powered but the Audio cables are plugged into this it still happens but as soon as they are unplugged it works again!

Does anybody have any ideas?

Are the wires really close to the monitor? I'm thinking you might have some kind of magnetic field going through those wires. Try with a different type of wire. Other than that i can't think of anything else.

Try to post a picture of how it gets distorted.

Check all your grounding wires.

I just checked the ground wire for the FM modulator and I cut it so Ican get a decent earth on the chassis somewhere and the modulator still appears to work when there is no ground wire connected?

Everything else (Inverter and screen) is using the same earth as I am using a 3 way cigerette lighter adapter! Would this make a different if I earthed this to the chassis also?

Just tried this with a DVD player (house type) and it worked fine! So I put it down to the Xbox!

What modulator do you have? I'm looking for one, and don't know exactly which to buy. Thanks!

That's not just a modulator, that's a transmitter!

The distortions seem like a ground-issue, as Truckinmp3 said, check that.

The modulator will work without a ground-wire as it gets the ground over the soundwires, which creates a ground-loop, not good.

Spiral copper wire around your AV cables and then ground the copper wire. This should cut interference. It's gross but would work.

You could get rid of the modulator all together.
